This morning I challenged my mom to eat strictly vegetarian for 15 days (or longer if she so chooses at the end of the 15 days) In the past four months, she's cut out most land meat, eating chicken rarely and mostly pesco and veg food. She's lost 20lb. on this diet, and wants to lose more so I suggested that she detox all the dairy, eggs, and meat from her body for AT LEAST 15 days and she agrees. My hope is that by the end of 15 days, having detoxed all the cheese and meat out of her, she will lose more weight, have more energy, and decide to become vegetarian permanently, which is highly likely. i'll keep you guys posted on this experiment if you care. anybody else ever challenge a friend or family member to eat vegetarian for a set period of time? any permanent converts from this? because, i've heard of quite a few people who were challenged to go a month or so without meat and they adopted the lifestyle permanently. any input appreciated.
Yea. I find this to be pretty successful. Right after my brother and I became vegan we convinced our parents to become pescatarian. We converted 4 friends to vegetarianism, one I think has been going back and forth with meat a bit here and there and one of those friends converted his mother. This is the great thing about spreading the word to others, they often spread it a level further and so on. We challenged one friend to not eat meat for a week and he did it successfully, but still eats meat (probably ate shit for a week). Anyway, I think it's a good idea.
A friend of mine recently saw me for the first time in a few months (I've lost 60+ pounds since December) and was so amazed, she asked me what my secret is. I listed off all the little lifestyle changes I've made, finishing off with, "And I'm vegan now, too". Two weeks later she called me and said she'd just read "Skinny Bitch" and decided to go vegan too. lol. But I've seen her since then and she was doing real well at it, says she doesn't miss it one bit!
for anyone who cares, the 15 days are over and yea, my mom feels great. she is going to stay vegetarian. woot. woot.
Yay! My mom pretty much eats vegetarian... well I moved out 2 weeks ago so now I can't be sure. But when I was there she would go long periods of time not eating meat, only eating it when my dad would make it. I guess she still eats turkey sandwiches and stuff but she really likes vegetarian food and always says she could eat like that and not miss anything. I keep adding to my list of vegetarian friends though! Its a wonderful thing! (I'm not a freak or anything, I just wanna have a veggie party haha)
I tell my meating eating friends (on occassion) that if they tried a vegetarian diet for 2 weeks, or so, they would learn a whole new world of fasinating foods that they can incorporate into their meat diets if they so choose. It's a win win situation either way. You can keep your meat, but you learn about new healthy foods that you would of otherwise ignored, or you become veggie and continue down the path of learning about this great way of being. Either way you have nothing to lose but knowledge.
my father is a diabetic, and is very nosey, so, everytime i make something, he wants to try it. My father will never be a vegetarian full fledged, hes too thickheaded, but.....Even the slightest bit will help the world out! as well as themselves
