    Hi Everyone!

I'm currently studying for my undergraduate degree in Computer Graphic Design and I need some information for my Media Studies paper.

I want to ask everyone who do they think best represents them as a homosexual and who doesn't in Film and Television.

For example, I love the character in Eternal Summer (Taiwanese Film) played by Bryant Chang because he represents how frustrating and depressing it is to fall in love with your best friend who is straight. And he represents me better because he's Asian. However, I much dislike the well-coifed men from Queer Eye because they fill the role of comic relief in the American media.

Any help is really appreciated because I'd love to hear everyone's opinions. ^_^

Looks like its just you :)

I cant think of any particular character that I'd say would represent me, but I agree that well-coifed men don't and those that are camp or obviously gay (i.e. stereotypically gay) also don't.

hmmm that's what I was thinking. The purpose of my essay is to question the ideologies of masculinity. It's not an issue that hasn't been addressed before but I would like to find out if anyone shared the views as me or not as I formulate my approach to take in this essay. Just to be less biased in the end if I understand other guys or girls think. But it's interesting you said that, >rodneysgay<, because I had a feeling that others would think the same way. Thanks.

my apologies, i didn't mean to be rude, i was just on my guard.

i guess im just more sensitive when it comes down to someone coming on a forum asking for my opinion just because of my sexuality.

but other than that, i can't really tell you what character best represents me, as i don't see much gay characters on television, the only one i can think of are the few from will and grace.

That is a very constructive comment. It's true that there aren't really too many gay characters on television or film. Especially popular film and television. And even if there were, they would feature a lot of stereotypes. However I do find one once in a while, in whatever language, which strikes a better chord with me.

Sorry I came on a bit strong with the question. This is the first time I've joined a forum like this. But I'm just a gay guy that hates having stereotypes imposed onto me. So I guess I'm quite passionate about the topic.

Cheers for feedback and I hope I get more ^_^
