it depends on what kind of rap you listen to. I hate the rap that talks about only bitches and hoes and whose sucking dick tonight and the stuff that has no point to it. But i like rap that talks about the things that are going on today, things about our government, and about real life experiences.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=ngZmc261LdQ I can listen to gangster-rap as well, but that's because you just gotta see it in a certain frame. Just like I can listen to death-metal as well.
Rap is not all about guns and bitches and violence and hoes. It is a genre of music, and I have listened to rap that is more peaceful, and consciousness expanding than most rock, or electronic music could ever be. There is some true talent in hiphop, and anyone who can't see that really needs to take their close-minded hat off. Have you guys ever listened to common? Or even some of the better bone thugs songs? What about akon? or Outkast? And these are just mainstream rappers, not to mention the hundreds of thousands of underground rappers that are amazing
This is a really immature, really stupid thread. You don't like rap/hiphop. Well, neither do I. But you have to accpet that some people like it and just move on. There's a lot of stuff that sucks or that you don't like in this world. Can't bitch about every single thing... That's just my opinion. Oh, and Freakymetalchik's right, if you're going to say "stay on topic", you should stay on topic. And for the record, I think Disturbed's pretty cool...even if you don't.
I can't stand gangster rap, with lyrics about pimping hoes and making money. How ever, i LOVE artists such as MF doom, Deltron 3030, The Roots, Public Enemy, etc etc. Lyrics with meaning
Hip hop is a culture, rap is the music of the culture. I hesitate to use the word "culture", because, to be honest, I view hip hop as more of a distinct LACK of culture. But that's just me.
I think it's perfectly valid to raise the subject of liking or disliking rap in this forum--at least, I think it's more valid than to raise it in, say, the gay forum. However, I don't think it was started very well. Instead of inviting everyone to discuss the music, it invites everyone to shoot it down and fight with each other. Which, I think, is notably un-hippy.
Yo, sista, me n me homies be chillin fo'shizzle, yaknowha'msayin? It always gives me a pleasant feeling when I see black people playing music other than gangsta rap. It seems to have become quite a rarity.
whats being white got to do with anything? are we making this a racist thread now? and whats wrong with being white? you got a problem with that?
Love these responses from typical hippies who like songs about flower patches and marijuana. Not all rap is about rocking 40s and shooting bitches; it would be foolish to think that way.
"Let me say for the record, I am not a gangster and never have been. Im not the thief who grabs your purse. Im not the guy who jacks your car. Im not down with the people who steal and hurt others. Im just a brother who fights back." "The real tragedy is that there are some ignorant brothers out here. That's why I'm not on this all-White or all Black shit. I'm on this all-real or all fake shit with people, whatever color you are. Because niggaz will do you. I mean, there's some [foul] niggaz out there [in the streets]; the same niggaz that did Malcolm X, the same niggaz that did Jesus Christ- every brother ain't a brother. They will do you. So just because it's Black, don't mean it's cool. And just because it's White don't mean it's evil." "We are in the midst of a very dangerous, non-productive, self-destructive civil war. And it's not just rap shit. It's ideals. And this rap shit is just bringin' it to a head. The East Coast believe one thing, and the West Coast believer one thing. The East Coast got one way of life, the West Coast got another wayof life, it always co-existed. We're coming to the turn of the century where we gotta mash together. But we can only do it one way, one style. And that's what we're trying to figure out now, and I think the world is watching that." "Imperfection is inherited, therefore we all sin, but fighting the war of sin is the greatest war of all because we all die in the end no matter how hard we fight." "I never thought I was the best rapper the best nothing'. I think I'm the realist nigga out there" "If you walked by a street and you was walking a concrete and you saw a rose growing from concrete, even if it had messed up petals and it was a little to the side you would marvel at just seeing a rose grow through concrete. So way is it that when you see some ghetto kid grow out of the dirtiest circumstance and he can talk and he can sit across the room and make you cry, make you laugh, all you can talk about is my dirty rose, my dirty stems and how am leaning crooked to the side, u can't even see that I've come up from out of that" clearly these are all opinions. theres nothing wrong with that. but sometimes you have to open your eyes and RESPECT other peoples opinions no matter what they have to say, or what music they listen to. shit like this is the basis of all wars and fighting no matter if its on the internet or not. theres alot of people who dont understand or care about what im trying to say, and thats ok they dont have to, but in MY mind i believe that respect is the moral base for living life together in peace no matter what color you are.....music u listen to......language you speak, etc.. i dont give a shit if NONE of you are with me, just hear me out and RESPECT my opinion.
This is the same old senseless bickering where people are confused with pro aestethic and pro-expression aimed around one. Kinda like how many idiots thought that california uber alles was a pro-nazi song by DK, uhhhh, guess again. It was a reflective perception. And though there is crued and off-grade temperament in the rap/hiphop scene. There're also noteworthy produces and expressions just as anywhere in music. Some artists simply succeed too a further/greater extent than others. At the end thought, still usually all good D-smack!
