I haven't done much crocheting for a while, I ran out of yarn lol and didn't bother getting more. But I got a couple custom tam orders lately and I just guess it's a sign of winter around the corner (let me fantasize, we only just got back in the 90's after triple digits for over a week...) so I started up again in the kick-back-watch-a-movie evenings. I really like the way this one came out - for the first hat I've done in 8 months or so, and only the second hat I've EVER made with a bill... I think it came out good!
Thanks! I like it, I'm going to list it on the site as a custom item (with the opportunity to LMK what size and colors they want it). Starting on the second one tonight sometime...
It turned out perfect! I can't believe that it was only your second time crocheting a brim. Great work and happy crocheting!
wow! that looks gorgeous!! and i know what you mean about triple digits. we were all rejoicing when it got down to 88 yesterday. it's been an average of 105 for the past week and a half. gross
(totally OT) ^ You live in GA, right? whereabouts? We've probably had about the same weather lately. It's been horribly dry here, too. Everything is dying, and in the next county over they've declared water shortage so everyone had to stop even watering veg gardens! (Because if we don't have enough water the obvious answer is to starve everyone out?) It's awful to think just a few hundred miles north people are losing their homes to flood, while its so dry and deathly hot here! Anyhoo... I went ahead and listed it as custom work on the site... http://www.hummblebee.com/headwear/customtam.html. Advice - DH is concerned the brim isn't stiff enough. I added it around the bottom, with sc's and dc's, and around the outside I added a border of sc's with two strands (which also turned into a drawstring around the rest of the base...) Do any of you all do it different? Is there anything simple I can do to give the brim a little extra stiffness?
no, I live in North Carolina. The heat is just inbearable here and dry as well. WE got our first rain in so long just today. it was awsome. I hope things start getting better and I can't wait for cold weather!!
I'm in NC too- I've never seen trees with the leaves drying up and falling off in summer before! even the scrubby pines that are tolerant of everything are turning brown. lawns everywhere are brown (except ours, which is mainly weeds!) It really is frightening. I guess carbon levels have to be increasing with much less than normal green stuff to handle it.
Yeah, it's back up to 102-104* here for today and tomorrow. Yuck. All the green growing things are miserable. The only happy plant in my life right now is my cactus. Even my aloe vera thinks it's too hot! lol, the lawns here are all dead too, but that's the one thing I can appreciate. My mower broke the week before it started to get so hot, and I haven't managed to scrounge up a new one yet. Anyway, at this point I could even handle the humidity if only it would rain! I actually have been DREAMING about rain, and waking up disappointed the last couple days...
Is the brim just one layer thick? I make two identical brims, and they get connected together when I add the border and connect them to the hat. It helps make it a little stiffer than just a one-layer brim
Oooooh ma ma~ Me likes~ and it appears to be big enough for my big fat hair... lol.! I've been feeling the fall/winter comin on as well ~ here in upstate ny it was 50 degrees!!!!! (However NOW it is back to 70- 80 range....) how much for the tam? I love brown
^^^^ Oh shoot nevermind ~~~ I just realized it was for a custom.....I'd be interested in something similar though
