My friends and I were debating this the other day, and I think we came up with some pretty good ideas. Nominations: Bob Marley - duh Paul McCartney - he and Linda grew and smoked a shitload of weed for many decades and he was busted with 7.7 ounces in Tokyo Tom Petty - I've seen him live twice and both times he was stoned as shit various members of the Dead - duh Any other ideas folks? Let the debate begin...
bob marley has been dragged on the filth so much hes name is pretty much ruined, only his music still exists. imo bob dylan esp the songs... brown eyed girl, like a rolling stone and mr tambpurine man
Bob Marley has no peer. He put reggae on the map. He put Jamaica on the map. He put Cheech and Chong size spliffs on the map before Cheech and Chong did. (The reason being that for a long time, they didn't sell many rolling papers in Jamaica, so they rolled these huge joints out of popcorn bags) True story. x
I'm gonna have to disagree. Look at how much he is fuckin being advertised today as the smoking idol of the fucking Earth. Bob Marley was a great musician, and a wonderful, peaceful being, but christ, whenever someone hears his name they automaticly think weed. It makes me sick, people see him as someone who smoked weed, not one who put out good music. I bet Syd Barrett smoked twice the weed and dropped quadruple the acid, yet you go to a Roger Waters, David Gilmour, or a Floyd coverband, and 60% of the people have no clue who Syd is. Life is blown out of proportion when people try to associate other people with objects. Or substances to be more on track. Van Morrison originally did Brown Eyed Girl.
not one of my favorite musicians but I'm surprised no mention for Calvin Broadus. For crying out loud, when he announced he was quitting smoking weed it made the news. Granted that says a lot about our news but that's a different story.
yeah, I was wondering how someone could get the two confused at first but I guess Morrison's draw there could make someone think it could be Dylan Bob Marley and Tom Petty and Snoop and Luda =D
Wow, I can't believe I didn't think of Willie Nelson! I grew up listening to him and he was the first pothead (if you will) that I looked at and thought "Damn, that is a cool guy." How about Bradley Nowell from Sublime?
Good call on Willie Nelson. Lennon smoked a lot but I'm not sure if he smoked as much in the 70's, does anyone know any details? Lennon definitely tripped a LOT too, way more than McCartney. I'm sure B-real and Snoop have smoked a ton too, but for some reason I was instinctively thinking about rock/pop when I started the thread.
Willie Nelson...he actually, to this day, smokes weed and plays chess with bob dylan, they are good friends.
