Has anyone ever went anywhere on a greyhound bus for a long period of time.. like 1k to 2k miles? I am thinking about doing it because its the cheapest way to travel on such short notice but was wanting some reviews if you will. Thanks.

interstate buses are slow. Might want to see what combo of bus and train you could pull off. lots of books and a reading light.

I do most of my traveling across the USA on a greyhound bus. It takes 3 days to go from CA to NH.

I've heard not a lot of positive things about bus travel...it does sound intriguing, especially if you are on a budget and are pressed for time. I'd go Aamtrak before I went Greyhound. But hey, if you do decide that its the way to go for you, let us know how it is!

I rode on one from Norfolf VA to Atlanta GA and it was horrible. Too many stops. One bus was late which threw my connections off. I'd def. go Amtrak if possible.

I bought a one way ticket to San Francisco a few days ago and I leave out this coming up Wednesday. It only cost me $84.00 to ride greyhound. Amtrak cost about 150.00. It is going to take me 1 day 20 hours. It should be a good time. Thanks for the info.

Ok here is the thing, don't rely on that one day thing. I took me over 24 hours to cross Texas, down one highway. I could have gone across the state twice in that time, and gotten sleep!!!!!!! I will admit in some ways it was one the best experiences of my life, but that is only if I look at one aspect of it. One couple I rode on one bus with was like three day in on a cross counrty trip!
    Good luck!!!!

i rode the dog cross country twice and i'd do it again. take a northern route if you can. the southern route buses were all packed, especially after new mexico. be sure to take some good food with you since you won't find much while you're riding. if you pull into a truck stop and have a longish break, take a shower. it costs about $5 but well worth it. let the driver know what you're doing so you're not left behind. be sure to get out and walk when ever you can since sitting and riding so long messes with your circulation. i talked with and met a lot of great folks while i was riding. have a great time!

Return that bus ticket...it's hell on earth, IMHO. Take the train or fly.

I've never ridden in one for more than 150 to 200 miles but as a kid my mom would put me on a Greyhound or a Peter Pan bus all by myself and ask the driver to look after me on my way to see my grandmother. Can you even IMAGINE doing that now???? I was all of like 8 years old!!!

Anyways the only thing I can remember other than tons of Archie comic books and candy was the atrocious smell of the bathroom and I always sat up front so I can't imagine what it smelled like down in the back. EW. Take a train!!!
