bronners is actualy the cheaper alternative since its so concentrated & can be diluted to make it last
i dont usualy dilute mine too lazy but when i do i can make it last a long time & i got way way more hair to wash then u
umm is that safe to use? hard to say, what i would try is take a glass, wet the soap, rub it on the glass m& rince it see if theres any residue left behind

other times people have asked about Dr. Bronners people seem to say about 10-12 times as much water as you have soap. so yeah just get an old shampoo bottle, fill it around one tenth full of soap and the rest with water.

yup, flee is right. that's exactly what i do for my dreadies when i wash them. a little bit of dr. bronner's goes a really long way. someone on this board said you know when you've done the dilution right because the peppermint won't sting your eyes or make your head feel like it's on fire.

Yeah I'm poor, and Dr. Bronner's is definitely worth it. Two of us use the $8 bottle and it lasts for months and months. And we use it for soap and to clean stuff with. I have an old bottle that I pour a little soap into, and then add a bunch of water. I really don't know the exact measurments, but I know if I don't dilute it enough, it's too drying on my skin.

The way I measure if it's diluted enough or not is by making sure there's no more white residual flakes floating on top. If there's even the smallest bit I dump some out and refill with water until it's all gone and just foggy enough not to see the bottom of the cup. Hell if I know if that's right or not but it doesn't leave any gunkies on my scalp & seems to be doin the job :p

& that picture reminds me of medical "special" cakes =D

you can do it yourself if you don't mind them not looking perfect, just grab hunks and back-comb... or just stop brushing your hair :) Bronner's really does last forever, I've had a 20oz bottle for over a year and it's not halfway through yet. You can use it for anything. Good luck!

I'd be happy to help. Sadly I live quite a ways from ya' :\
Didja' show your boyfriend any instructions on how to backcomb in sections? I say give it another shot.
You can do it yourself, it's so tiring though (for the back, the front is easy). I tried that myself, said fuck it after about ten minutes and had my friend do it. Do the front yourself, show your bf how you're doin it, and have him do the back for you. That could work :D

just stop combing... not hard at all, just takes patience. If you keep them separated and cared for they end up just as beautiful (if not more so, but I'm biased) as backcombed locks.

I can tell you i have washed my dreads with every kind of shampoo and soap and there is not a bit difference. There is no such thing as a bad shampoo or soap for your dreads, and there is no such thing as you should wash them with that product and no you shouldnt wash them with that product...i mean the whole bullshit with the "right" shit to wash them with is...pffff..bullshit. You can wash them with whatever you want!

certain ingredients negatively effect the scalp long term... doesn't matter what you wash em with short term. My opinion is that dreads should be washed with as clean and pure ingredients as possible since they NEVER rinse out fully leaving the hair and scalp more vulnerable to build-up.
