Looks like the US is now searching the Internet for info about people entering the US, and possibly for other reasons.

This guy took LSD 30 something years ago and wrote about it, and thus was denied entry to the US by border guards who looked his name up on the Internet.

Moral: NEVER EVER USE YOUR REAL NAME ONLINE!!!

BTW, I hereby welcome back the LA FREE PRESS into existence! (They just wrote me to tell me they're back!)

Long may it live and spread the TRUTH! :)

That's the craziest thing I've read in awhile. I wonder if there's something we could do to protest this sort of treatment. It's absurd...he doesn't even have a criminal record.

Edit: I found another article on the subject...Feldmar isn't the first to be barred for some BS reason under the Patriot Act, and likely isn't going to be the last. The ACLU is taking action, but it will probably be years before anything is resolved.

You can read more at : http://thetyee.ca/News/2007/04/23/Feldmar/

Why do you think the US gov't just put into effect a law that requires Europeans and others who don't normally apply for visa to visit the US to provide two days notice to US authorities?

They're gonna check them out on the Internet (and elsewhere). And if someone's name pops up on some site with a reference to drugs, or being an activist, or even to SYMPATHY with terrorists they will probably be denied entry before they ever get on a plane!

Just think! This is JUST THE START of our Gov't learning how to SPY on everyone. Next step is to apply this to Americans. Why should we be immune from spying?

Oh that's right! WE ARE NO LONGER IMMUNE FROM OUR GOV'T SPYING ON US, thanks to the LATEST SPY LAW passed by CONGRESS, with a Democratic majority!

Yup, those DEMS are REALLY looking out for us, no? No, they too want to spy on us!

    GET USED TO IT!

this could set in motion a very scary thing a buddy of mine was arrested after his car was illegally searched the reason he was stoped and searched was because he had a dead sticker on his car and deadheads are known drug users and it held up in court! are pepole going to be denied entry because of the music they listen to or the books they read ? this is scary very scary!!!

I know that anonymity has never existed on the internet since the earliest days when is was known as the arpanet/milnet and only used by university and military staff.

I for one refuse to hide behind a pseudonym and realized long ago that in reality there is no way to truly hide ones identity and if you have nothing to hide, then why bother with subterfuge.

Toby, there are other VERY good reasons to hide your identity on the Internet. I hope you never have to discover them for yourself...

How do they know they have the right person when looking someone up on the internet? I have searched for my own name and never found myself, but there seems to be other people out there with my name all over the net. Luckily they have not done, or atleast posted, anything illegal.

God dam government. They're just scared that we (humans) can open doors in our minds. Doors that they are afraid to go in, and they don't want us to go in there either because if we go in, then we might learn something that they don't know... and that leaves us a little out of their control! (courtesy of Ken Kesey and truer than life).

Amazing isn't it how we can research and prevent scholarly Canadians from entering our fair country, but we can't stem the immigration of illegals from our southern border?

Well be glad GW takes the crud as enlistees today or some of what you posted on the internet could have negated your enlistment. I am glad it didn't. You'll now get to taste this government first hand in boot camp or basic.

Think I'll call you a hero once you are in uniform...guess again! Hero's earn that term they don't just put on pretty uniforms.
