I've found during my 15 years teaching meditation that it's very difficult for people in our modern, fast paced society to learn meditation. Most drop out because they don't see immediate results and benefits. They find it difficult to sit for 20 or 30 minutes doing nothing. Modern brain wave technology has provided an answer. This technology emulates the the sound waves created in the mind during meditation giving access to deep states without any doing from the user. I've used this technology myself and found that it takes me very quickly to a deep state that allows me to jump off into very deep meditation. New students are able to achieve states that would ordinarly take years very quickly. If you want more information go to http://ibreathe-in.com/meditate.html Namaste Deco
With a yogic lineage of over 5000 years behind me, I'll pass. It would be like using a calulator in math class. If you lose the calculator one day, can you still pass by your own efforts? x
Meditation is science, techniques used to achieve a meditative state are technology. Calculators make math accessible to lots of people, just as this technology makes meditation accessible to many people. I used a calculator in math class, and I use spell check to check my spelling. Different strokes for different folks. You don't know what you don't know.
I used holosync and monroe technology cds before and they are good, but they do not give me the understanding that is important. Holosync advertises 'meditate deeper than a zen monk' and it works, but deeper does not mean better and it does not mean understanding. I know now that this is what is really important. What I mean is that I realize that I need more than just technology - and also technology does not develop the same mastery. There is a lot missing in relying on technology. I believe it can be a guide, like training wheels, but then take them off and go free.
The fact remains that if you're listening to something external to yourself, your brain is still engaged in the processing of that information. As long as it is, true meditation will not occur. x
I agree with whirlstar and xexon but having agreed I must also ad in my beer swilling mate Bubba's response when I told him that tech is not "true" meditation. He said "It may not be true but it works for me buddy so why must you rain on my parade? I'm enjoying myself here!" What I'm saying is that it's easy for us to be sanctimonious puritans proclaiming our truth and such and such but when it comes down to it not even I would let anyone have the last word on what "truth" really is - not to mention the fact that some people just don't give a crap and frankly I'm not so sure that the need exists to try and make them.
Actuall I agree that the technology doesn't get you all the way. What it does is it takes you to a state of deep sleep...without dreams...every time...and when you can get to that state and be awake and aware you can jump into a deep meditative state..Most of the old techniques were used with a teacher who knew where you were...without a teacher you have no comparison...the technology takes you to the same place every time....what you do from there is up to you..
Why not just take a bunch of acid? Utilizing something outside the self to see Self is inherently going to lead to no place of lasting peace.
hopefully you only mean this semantically. There's nothing necessarily wrong with the technology but meditation, at least for me, is not about the end. It's the MEANS. It's not a race to get to different states it's the journey to those states that causes enlightenment. Taking 20 - 30 minutes out of your day is one of the many benefits
I agree it's no race but its not the journey that causes enlightment...it the awakening of Witness Consciousness, the cognizance of the Atman Darhsan that is enlightment...but I have found over the years that sometimes I digress....began to achieve lower states and I am not aware of that because I have no outside comparision......When I lived in India I had a teacher who could see my aura and know where I was and give me something to create a new window of consciousness....without that teacher I have no external monitor and you know how things just get dull...and familiar...and sometime life jumps out at you and you don't get as deep...I use the technology Knowing that it is not Meditation but it gets me to the same state of deep sleep, without thoughts, and if I am still aware when I get there I can jump off into deep meditation...and it does it everytime because its a machine.
