Have you guys ever been barefoot at the movies? Or even fast food places such as McDonalds? What's it like? Icky? Dirty? And have any of you ever managed to go bowling barefoot?

I have been to the movies barefoot many times. Cleanliness depended on the theater. I've been to some where the floors have been sticky and pretty dirty and I have been to some that we very clean. I have also been to dozens of fast food places barefoot. Kind of like the movie theater. Some had dirtier floors than others. I've been to a few places where my feet weren't slightly dirty going and almost black coming out. I've been to a bowling alley barefoot before but not to play. I think that would be hard to get away with.

I've only kicked off my flip flops during a movie and put them back on after the movie. But it definitely was a great experience. Hopefully one of these days I'll have the courage (and Kansas will have not-so-scalding pavement) to go into the theater totally barefoot.

As for bowling, I've never done that barefoot :( I don't even know if I really want to go bowling anytime soon, let alone doing it barefoot.

I usually go to the movies barefoot. Tends to be sticky in the theater but usually the lobby is carpeted. Everyone takes off their shoes when they are in the movie anyway so why bother wearing them in?

I always go in fast food places barefoot. They are usually pretty clean.

I bowl barefoot too. If you aren't wearing socks (and I HATE socks) then bowling shoes are nasty. People say I'll drop the ball on my foot but that will hurt not much more than if I did that with shoes on.

Your feet will always get dirty on the bottoms if you spend all day barefoot but you get used to it.

I've never been to a movie barefoot, as i only go in the wintertime, but i often go in restaurants and cafes barefoot. This being good old England, no one ever says anything!

I've yet to enter a movie theater barefoot, but my flip flops come off the minute I sit down. I usually try and get the seats close to the bottom of the theater that have the railing so that I can relax and put my feet up. I noticed a LOT more people now kicking off their shoes in the theater, and either putting them on the railing like I do, or up on the seat. In fact the last movie I went to the girl in front of me kicked off her flip flops right away too, and reclined her legs onto the seat next to her. (Of course, I was distracted the whole time with her feet wiggling in the dark for two hours). ;-) I almost always leave the theater barefoot - I tend to like going to the late late shows that start at 10:00 PM or later, so by the time I leave the only theater personnel left are the skeleton cleanup crew, and they couldn't give a crap if I wander out barefoot.

I've only tried McDonald's once in bare feet, and yeah their floors got my feet about as black as they've ever gotten, ever. Soon after that, McDonald's started putting up the "No Bare Feet by order of the Health Department" which I want to challenge every time I go near a Mickey-D's.

I've not gone bowling for more than a dozen years...something about the atmosphere of a place that rents shoes just gives me the schkeevies. [IMG]

Like everywhere else, I always go to the movies without shoes. Out theater here is amazingly nice and clean and like Barefootmatthew, I love to get the seats with the railing so that I can prop my feet up during the film. We usually take a couple of sarongs to fend off the cold. You'd think that with our power at US$.40 per k/wh they'd start keeping the place at a more reasonable temperature...

The only fast food place I ever set foot in (they're always bare...) is Subway, which is always sparkling clean. I deplore fast food and everything it stands for, but the Subway franchisee here (there's only one) treats their employees very well and the food is pretty wholesome if you get the veggie.

Like the rest, I've not bowled in years, but the last time I did I walked in barefoot. Like everywhere else here, no one says anything about it. In a culture where virtually everyone wears zorries, however, this is not too surprising. I think that actually bowling barefoot would be rather difficult, as a big part of it is sliding just right before releasing the ball. Since bare feet grip so well, the slide would be awfully short. The other issue is that small bits of sand or other hard materials may still be on the bottom of your feet unless you scrubbed them immediately before walking on the lane. The reason why you are not allowed to wear street shoes in the alley, other than the ability to slide properly, is to prevent small bits of sand or stones from abrading or scratching the highly polished wood of the lane. Like downhill skiing, high performance motorcycle riding/racing, or downhill mountain bike racing, bowling is one of the few activities where shoes actually make sense, albeit for entirely different reasons.

Most recently I went to Chipotle barefoot. My roomate wanted to go so I just hoped in the car, he didnt even notice my barefeet till we got out of the car at the strip mall. He was like, "um did you forget your shoes?" I said yeah must have and started walking. Then I stopped and asked if he'd take his shoes off too cause I felt out of place. He actually said ok and threw his sandals into the car and we went in. None of the employees noticed but the guy standing behind us inline keep staring. I acted like I didnt notice but id turn up my soles pretended to scratch my leg so he could see the dirt. Unfortunatly their tile floors were clean and when I left my soles were cleaner than when I went in. Since that first time ive convinced him to leave his shoes at home and weve been to Mr. Goodcents and Chipotle a number of times barefoot now.

I've been to a couple of movies lately, and thankfully the floors have been clean. No problem barefoot at Applebees or any fast food place I have been too. Bowling? Now that I have not tried... ;)

Like most of the people who have responded to this thread, I too have gone to the movies on more then one occasion barefoot. To the best of my knowledge, nobody seemed to notice when I entered the cinema barefoot. And as far as the condition of the floor, I don't remember my feet ever sticking to it. Yours truly has also had to use the mens room on more then one occasion at the theatre and didn't find his feet sticking to the floor there either.

These days, like most people who are trying to take care of their bodies, I try to stay away from fast food, so I don't have any reason to venture into a McDonald's or Burger King barefoot. However, I have been known to stroll barefoot into a Seven Eleven or Store Twenty-Four. FYI: I did see one rather attractive woman barefoot at a Wendy's years ago. I was a teenager at the time and my mother who was with me, nearly had a seizure over the fact that the woman was barefoot at an establishment that serves food. Oh well,Different strokes for different folks.

I have never attempted to bowl barefoot before, but judging by the way I couldn't enjoy too many nights out on the town last summer without stubbing my toes, common sense tells me I'd be a prime canidate to drop a bowling ball on my foot if I attempted such a stunt. As for now, I think I'll continue to stick to tossing the odd frisbee in my barefeet and toss darts at my local watering hole barefoot. There is nothing like trying to hit a bull's-eye when you're standing on a sliver of broken glass.

I've been to the movies several times barefoot. Fast foods, countless times. I had one ex-girlfriend who like to stand on my bare feet with hers when we were in line. My tops would be filthy! Sometimes she would sit in the booth on the seat sideways with her feet showing off to everyone. It was really cool! Also nice to have someone to play footsies with under the table. I've never bowled barefoot.
