Hello All!. My name's Wes and I live in Orlando and I'm 24. I've been smoking weed off an on for about 5 or 6 years. I love weed, but unfortunately, I have always had an anxiety disorder and weed actually makes it worse, ie more paranoid, anxious. Not at all like a normal reaction, I actuall get WIRED, never slowed down, almost like coke, though I've never tried it. Of course you're all going to ask me why I do it (as most people do), I think maybe you should all ask yourselves too, because I sure as hell don't do it for the relaxation (and I don't think most of you do either if you're honest), I've always done it for the thrill of the high (out of boredom, a TRUE enhancement smoker) and my anxiety is a side effect that I've had to tolerate. What really sucks is, it seems to be getting worse, and I don't want to quit weed, although if I'm honest it probably is a drag on motivation (overall) more than I or probably you would like to admit, but quitting just doesn't seem realistic. I have been on SSRI's ie Effexor and Lexapro and they help with the anxiety but completely diminish the high altogether which I can't do. I was wondering if Maoi's do the same thing or if there is anything that I can take with it that would help specifically with anxiety where I could keep smoking without diminished effect and/or boosted effect (why the hell does the one thing that helps you have to do that, how godamn annoying is that?) I have heard that MAOI's can actually potentiate a mushroom trip somehow inhibiting the psilocybin or something, maybe it would do the same with weed that would kick ass. Maybe I should just quit. The shit has helped me in some ways but really fucked me over in others. What a shame to not be able to enjoy your life without a substance. Weed isn't as bad as the government would have you believe, but is worse than most smokers would care to admit, if they could ever even realize it.

can't decide if your asking a question or giving a lecture. If your trying to calm anxiety...pop some freaking xanax.

I was on the SSRI Sertraline (generic Zoloft) after being diagnosed with general anxiety disorder. I had been on weed before and continued to do so. The SSRI made things worse. I stopped it and have been on weed alone for the last year almost. My grades are up, I'm happier, and I've noticed the anxiety can be controlled if I just stay positive, get good rest, and eat healthy....and a few bowls a day with my girlfriend :)

I stopped taking zoloft and welbutrin so I could get high, but the weed did the job of both for me.

Sorry to hear your experience with cannabis hasn't been good, but i dont see how weed is worse then smokers would care to admit. What specifically do you think is bad about it (in general, not based on you experiences)?

Maoi's wouldn't have a direct potentiation effect, like with mushrooms or other amine based molecules, since THC is not amine, the oxidation of it will not be effected in the body by it.

my friend said a pill with .3 grams of ground syrian rue seeds (which have MAOIs like hamaline) made the high more intense

I've smoked crystalline harmaline mixed with herb and its was only subtly different then just herb by itself. There maybe some combined effect but an maoi like harmaline doesn't really do that much by itself, at least in dosages used for the maoi effect for potentiation of amines (60-200mg-+). There is no physical biological mechanism for it to effect THCs metabolism in the body, the way it does to amines molecules. Maoi's stop the body from (oxidising) breaking down amines, but sense THC isn't an amine, it wouldn't have a direct effect on it.
