1. for vegetarians, to show people they can be veggie and easily be healthy 2. give blood, I can't yet but when i am 17 i hope to, and i want it to be the best i can make it! 3. For myself, so i can be more capable of doing things. 4. To attract males/females (females for me) I am a healthy person but hope to get healthier, i thought to do this, it would be easier if i had reasons for doing so. What are your reasons for being healthy? well I have been away for a while i have a lot of posting to catch up on.
yes being healthy is important. i am in chronic pain from chest infection and pleurisy at the moment and on antibiotics. third time this year ive been ill with it. only used to get ill once a year and not this badly. i used to do exercise, eat better and smoke less. go figure. been a wake up call for me. gonna try and change my ways and be healthier coz this is horrid.
Mental well-being. I've been through periods of horrible depression and it was getting physically fit and healthy that helped me to kick myself out of it If you feel good physically you're better able to cope with things mentally, have greater reserves for when you need them and exercising makes you feel good naturally
Did you know, that (at least here in Canada) if you are a gay man, they will not take your blood for donation no matter what? Talk about discriminating. Anyways.
If you feel good physically you're better able to cope with things mentally, have greater reserves for when you need them and exercising makes you feel good naturally
I can definately buy into that.
What is the reason for that? that accounts to the same thing as saying you can't be a doctor or something if your gay, I am not gay, but I don't see any problem with it, IF i was in need of help I would be grateful to anyone who helped me!
think its coz of higher risk of hiv in gay males who dont use condoms. correct me if im wrong. im really not clued up on it
There are members of all sorts of "high risk" groups who are excluded from giving blood including gay and bisexual men, drug users, and (I think) people who have recently travelled to certain countries... Presumably they do test all the blood they get but exclude those for whom a statistically higher proportion will fail such tests.
i think you are correct about that, autumn. however, i don't understand how that could really be a reasonable explanation in this day and age. if they ask 'have you had unprotected sex', then yes, don't accept those candidates; but to just say 'no' to anyone who is a gay male because some may choose to have unprotected sex seems a bit half-witted. especially when there's always a short supply of blood.
I do all i can to be healthy, and i do better than many i think. Im vegan, soon to be a raw foodist (well, im gona give it a go...im currently about 60 percent raw) Dont smoke, drink rarely, exercise lots. My eyes are often bright and stuff...i looked and felt absolutely great for many years, but then came a trauma and then followed a lot of symptoms...I was urinating 5 times in a night, i was always thirsty, my hair was thinning, i got these patches on my skin, got weakness and irritability...You may recognise them. Anyway my point is sometimes these things cant be helped. Its very rare though, and if i was on a "normal" diet who KNOWS how much worse id be. Im thankful for what ive got
Also i cant give blood, as apparently i dont weigh enough! (again, rapid weight loss was a symptom for me i used to be average) No-one wants crap bloodz, anywayz
It's very stereotypical, if the person in question has safe sex and you test it anyways, then who is to say they can't donate? I know a few gay men who lie about their sexuality so they can donate. When I went to donate blood they wouldn't let me, even though I had ALWAYS has save sex and my partner was clean I couldn't because he had had sex with another man at a previous point in his life. That is completely ridiculous.
yeah, my ex was always turned away from donating because he had had sex with men in his lifetime, even though it was always protected - except for the time he was molested but that had been some 20+ years before. and well, if he'd had HIV from that it would have already shown up. i thought also, but could be wrong, that if you are on anti-depressants you can't donate blood as well. it really sucks though, because despite all the screening and testing they do of the blood sometimes bad blood still gets through. i have a friend who's a hemophyliac and he has to take medicines to keep his blood clotting. before he had decent insurance coverage and could get the synthetic variety, his meds contained human blood. unfortunately for him, one batch was infected with hepatitis C. so for awhile he had Hep C because of his medication which used human blood. fortunately for him, they were able to treat him with other meds and he no longer has Hepatitis in his system, and now as i said, he uses meds for the hemophilia that contain a synthetic plasma instead of using human plasma.
Oh Hep C, guess no one should be allowed to donate blood then. Sorry, it's touchy subject. But yeah, it does happen, but that's what the testing is for.
