Why do most of you think that by joing the military your going to be killing some one... for christ sake do some reserch into it why dont ya... their is a lot more job oportunites other than infantry. wanna be an electrician? you can do it! wanna be a communications person? you can do it! wanna be a journalist? you can even do that!!! the military is not evil nd does not turn you into a mindless killer that is total USDA grade A 100% pure Bullshit. Your job that you get depends on your ASVAB score... the higher the score the better the jobs nd opportunities availible, It depends on what jobs are availible...if infantry is filled up then you dont get infanty... if electrician is filled up you dont get electrician...and it dpends on what you would be best at... if you wanna be an communications guy but got a high score on the mechanics part of the asvab likly hood is that your going to be some kinda mechanic... you get higher scores in english or math..chances are youll be doing something along those lines... i hve joined the Marine Corps... im planning on being in it for the full 20. im hoping to be a tanker or combat engineer. and im putting this out there.... army deployment 15 months with a two week vist home half way through it... Marine deployment... 7 months.... nd remember... the pay is all the same in every branch.. pfc tom in the air force gets paid the same as pfc pile in the Marines....1350$ a month ... nd the ammount you get paid also depends on your job. also... it's takes longer and is harder to get ranked up in the air force and navy.
Maybe you should have waited till the publican Cheekin Hawks are voted out of office? I hope you survive and are able to be a Lifer, if that is your wish..... Peaceful thoughts your way.... Farmout
For some reason I got the feeling that the kid making this thread was assuming that people on a hippy site knew nothing about the military. The guy in the picture above is my son & the picture was taken while he was in Iraq the first time (he goes back to Iraq next month) I also have a brother that has been in the USAF for 22 years. **your pay is higher if you have extra schooling~take a semester of college first before going in & then compare paychecks with the other pfc**
uh the only way your pay will be higher is if you are promoted. obviously you dont know much about the military. hey imabear, good for you bro. yeah im army and suffering the 15 month deployment. only got 2 left. but your right about the job oppurtunities. only a few select mos actually go outside the wire and 'fight'. most sit on the fob's and collect the same money as the guys getting shot at and blown up. but hey, thats just the way things work
A large portion of military combat fodder are kids like yourself from small towns who have no real concept of the outside world. You're chumps for military recruiters. They think you've have just fallen of the turnip truck, so an exciting career in the military seems like a pretty good way to go, and thats what they'll sale you. That money they're promising you won't do a bit of good with you in a grave. Do yourself and your momma a favor...get a non combat position. At least in the beginning. This war has a lot of problems associated with it. Don't become one of them. x
um....a Marine is an infantryman, first and foremost...screw your MOS, you're trained infantry same with Army...basic is trained with infantry tactics, until you go on to advance camp oh, and the way the Iraq war, and other wars like it are fought...yea, um, non-combat MOS' still get in on the combat.
...hmmm who are we gonna send out on the front lines the electrical engineer who chose electrical engineering or the infantry man who decided he wanted front lines? I think it's great that the OP is choosing a career and getting training for it while he is in the military. Laurie's husband was in the Marines and was a boat mechanic-he never fought. He's almost done with college and is going back in as an officer he liked it so much.
all Marines are trained Infantry - thats a basic principle. then they have advance training for their MOS. but every Marine is infantry and rifleman first and foremost. of course you'd put the infantry on the front line...however i said, with how the war is going, non-combat roles still get in on combat, because there are no front lines - you wonder why transport get hits hard in Iraq.
yeah transport. duh, they transport stuff and get hit by ied's. electrical engineers will stay on the fob. MOS's other than infantry, artillery, and MP's will be the only ones out looking for combat. there may be a few more as well. they are the ones kicking in the doors and chasing down bad guys. they are the ones getting into hour long battles. the rest of the military that even goes outside the wire is either route clearence or some kind of escort and get smashed by bad guys. thats how it is here.
Even though you were supportive of the OP i must point out that you've shown: A. significant ignorance concerning the military and how it works B. that you didn't read the thread very well It doesn't matter if you want to be an infrantry man or a mechanic or an electrician. What you want doesn't really come into play. Like he said, its ASVAB scores. The military TELLS YOU what you are going to do. You could have dreamed of being in the infantry all your life, but if your ASVAB shows you'd be a good mechanic, your gona be a mechanic. If it shows you don't have much in the way of specialized skills and you can hit a moving target at 100 yards, then chances are your going to be infantry. I know you mentioned a friend/relative/whatever thats in the military, perhaps you should consult with them. By the way, I'm neither pro-war or anti-war. They each have their place and are equally valid opinions. I am however pro-you shutting the hell up when you clearly have no idea what your talking about.
Because the purpose of a military in time of war is just that. Want to think there is a superior reason, then don't join up. Spend your money lobbying congress in the hope that your private interest will be uppermost on the agenda. Join the military, and believe me if they need you to kill, they will order you to do so.
NO shit Sherlock. But you can take the test before you sign the papers, therefore lke any other job you can take it or turn it down. So I am assuing you are int he military since you know more than me?
Transprt is basically as exposed as frontlinema. In fact they are more exposed because they have less armor and trainingin defense tactics.
Actualy I am not in the military, I did however come very close. My friends in the army and marine corps went a long towards convincing me that it wasn't a good idea in the current political climate. I did take the ASVAB and was told I'd probobly be working on electronics when I had actually aspired to go through scout/sniper training. I did all my research (read: didn't listen to a damn thing the recruiter said and talked to friends in the military instead, most recruiters lie their asses off) and decided not to join until Führer Bush was out of the white house. In any case my main point was to tell you to read the god damn thread before you post. take a fucking :chill: [sarcasm] Ya know, because the military doesnt have medics, doctors or anything like that that serve the exact opposite purpose of killing people. The military never intervines in cases of genocide in places like Croatia and Bosnia, saving countless lives in the process. They also never provide peacekeeping forces that distribute food in starving nations such as Somolia. Oh yeah, and the military didn't have anything to do with liberating France or ending the holocaust in world war two. They just went to those countries to kill people, serving no higher purpose whatsoever right? [/sarcasm] He was right though, regardless of his/her eventual position, be it an air crewman, mechanic, or a lawyer every marine must demonstrate proficancy with a rifle in order to get through basic training. The marine corps is rather . . . well crazy about their marksmanship training. Remember the "There are many like it but this one is mine" creed from full metal jacket? They really do that . . . I'm not saying your wrong, a marine in the infantry does go on to advanced infantry training, but any marine can take a man down at 100 yards withoutmuch effort should he need to. Quote from USMC Press: In boot camp at Parris Island or San Diego, and in the Basic School at Quantico, no one escapes from the Rifleman's Creed. Every Marine is trained, first and foremost, as a rifleman, for it is the rifleman who must close with and destroy the enemy. The rifleman remains the most basic tenet of Marine Corps doctrine. All else revolves around him.
I am not a Bush supporter, but you are basically saying you want to join as long as you do not have to go to war? I am glad that your friend being inthe military gives you such expertise. I know nothing since I just come from a military family and my fiancee is in his 9th year. I wish i had a friend in the military so i could know as much as you do. hmmm and the military doesn't have medics?????? And they never went to Bosnia???? Pick up a newspaper and educate yourself please. And I don't need your punk ass, too pussy to join the military self telling me to read the thread thank you very much.
1. I am not saying I would join the military and not be willing to go to war. In fact, I specificaly stated that I wanted to go through scout/sniper training, not work on electronics in friendly territory. I am saying that I am unwilling to have an inept war-criminal that publicly violates the geneva convention and who is better described as a cimpanzee as my commander in chief. However, if my country was threatened or a just cause for military intervention in a foreign country existed I would enlist immediatly regardless of who is in the white house, as I feel that is my duty as a citizen. That is something that my military family taught me. 2. It's not just friends in the military that gives me "expertise" (and by the way I never claimed to be an expert, nor am I now). I simply said that they went a long way towards convincing me not to join. I also come from a military family, both of my grandfathers fought in world war two, one landed at Normandy on D-day and the other was a marine who fought in the pacific, the marine was a lifetime military man. My uncle also enlisted (read: not drafted. my family believes in returning the favor for the freedoms we enjoy) and fought in vietnam, they provided me with lots of advice also. I also researched the subject for over a year before making my decision. 3. Regarding bosnia, medics etc: Again, your not reading threads very well or your just a troll (see: sarcasm tags). I was simply pointing out to the person i quoted that he was a moron for saying all the military does is kill people serving no higher cause by sarcasticly taking his position and making rediculous statements that anyone with a third grade education would recognize as rediculous and sarcastic. So basicaly your either extremly dense or just a troll. Any idiot could tell that it was sarcasm even without the sarcasm tags. I put the fake sarcasm tags there specificaly because I knew you were going to try to use this as some excuse to flame me, your very predictable. So again, start reading posts so you stop making an ass out of yourself, or go troll somewhere else. We're trying to have an intelligent discussion here.
I just don't see why you felt the need to pick a fight with me in your first post directed towards me and now you are saying we are on the same page-makes no sense. I didn't know this thread was about reading comprehension and that I would be issued a test.
