You MUST check out Huxley's works and also other Orwel's books (the last I read was "Down and out in Paris and London". I was traveling in France with very little money and sleeping in sick places and eating poor stuff so I really liked the book - it's about the poors. Cool stuff!) :)

I always silently wished to read this, because Metallica made their video of "one" with bits of the movie of the book (of of of :p), and I love Metallica so.. :)

Wuthering Heights (the genius Bronte you can keep the rest) and Paradise Lost by Milton two out of the three books I'll never be able to seperate from my top spot.

A Tree Grows in Brooklyn – Great story about a girl growing up in Brooklyn before WWI 1900 -1918. She faces constant adversity but manages to make the best of it. Very uplifting and sad at the same time.

I found to kill a mockingbird boring and it didn't seem to have any real plot, but that's just my opinion.
The Count of Monte Cristo was good, so was The Scarlet Pimpernel, and Beowulf rocks too, and of course tons of others...

Dickens is pretty awesome, someone mentioned Oliver Twist, but I'd add "A Tale Of Two Cities" to that for sure.
Of course, Shakespeare is always worth reading and has been mentioned.
I enjoyed On Walden Pond, that always seems to be one people love or hate.
The Scarlet Letter I also enjoyed quite a bit.
Despite all the uproar about Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer, I enjoyed those books alot.

I could go on and on and on ... you know?

I would definetely recomend any book by Virginia Woolf. Also Herman Hesse, Geoge Orwell, Oscar Wilde, Franz Kafka, Jean-Paul Sartre, Albert Camus, Umberto Eco... Someone recommended "Thus spoke Zartathustra" by Friederich Nietzsche and I totally agree with that. Don't know if they're all considered as classical books... the borders between classical and non-classical are difuse for me sometimes...:p Anyway, in my opinion they are good authors and worth reading!;)

One flew over the cuckoo's nest- Great, classic book.

The catcher in the rye- I liked it personally, and its a GREAT book, but I think some might find it a bit over-rated.

1984- Everyone should read this book.
