Most of my favorite bands are punk or "new wave".

Dead Boys, Fear, Ramones, Sex Pistols, Heartbreakers, Circle Jerks, X, Stooges, Angry Samoans, Dictators, Dead Kennedys, The Clash, The Damned, Buzzcocks, The Vibrators, The Voidoids, Television, MC5, NY Dolls.

Yeah some of those bands were really proto-punk, I admit.

There are a ton more that I love. Not much into the hardcore scene though, aside from like Circle Jerks and Fear. I like the stuff thats clearly blues and rock inspired. Garage punk I guess you'd call it.

Misfits are so overrated. Ditto with the Ramones and the Clash. and the Sex Pistols? They don't deserve any of it.

    Crass and Subhumans.

Crass were a very interesting band - I liked their stuff with the poison girls - 'penis envy' was a record years ahead of it's time, and politically I'm 100% crass.

I don't agree with their stance on dope though.

You're not serious are you?! Misfits, ok they're a little overrated, but they're good. As for the others NOT deserving anything. BLASPHAMY! The Ramones, The Clash and The Sex Pistols practically birthed punk rock! They're the classics. They ARE punk and made such a huge stance in punk rock history.

Oh, I do love the Misfits, but too often they serve as the poster child for the mallrats.
"Oh so you listen to punk?"
"YEAH LIKE THE MISFITS AND THE SEX PISTOLS."
    "Anything else?"
    "Uh... no."
Yeah. Oh right, and the only Misfit albums tolerable are the ones with Danzig, not Jerry Only. Just sayin'.

For the Ramones and the Clash-- I never said they weren't good, I'm just saying they're overrated. People think just because they started the movement, oh well they must be the best-- however, nah. Plenty of predescesors overcame their legacy with greater ideas and music.

And the Sex Pistols? I don't even think they count as punk. Sid Vicious was a poser, they only hired him for his looks. *cough* excuse me, when was punk ever about that? He couldn't play the bass, he didn't even help record their albums. Just because he was a junkie does not make him punk-- I'm looking for a little intellectual substance in my music, not just fucking pointless noise. Johnny Rotten even admitted that they were posers, can't argue with that.

    Let the bashing begin?

you could definitely say that. i never really thought about it that way but joey was always looking for the next hit or sugar hook, RIP buddy. yeah and the buzzcocks were just a cute n fuzzy uk goldmine. pop punk has such a HORRIBLE (yet completely well deserved) rep these days though. leaves a bad taste in your mouth. like emo. but they are definitely classic examples of what used to be good, for starters.

    ditto ditto ditto fucking ditto.

    misfits = tad overrated.

sex pistols = gave birth to and later destroyed the pre-80s UK punk rock scene, you should be fucking thankful they were around! they changed EVERYTHING there is to be known about what we call punk rock today, johnny rotten has inspired incredibly vast amounts of people, especially those you might look up to! RIP sid

clash = birthed political punk, a withstanding and formidable force in the punk scene right up until joe strummer's death (RIP) and from there on out. i don't even know what to say .. they deserve every fucking inch of what they worked to achieve - they changed the world as we know it! or at least mine, i know i don't speak for everyone.

ramones = gave birth to pop punk and stuck around way past everyone's expectations, maybe even their own. especially as a long islander, i'm fucking proud of the ramones and their longetivity - RIP joey johnny and dee dee - they did so much for the world of punk rock and are yet another band no one will ever forget .. and for good reason.

there's my two cents, and two more for my personal favorites - dk, black flag and minor threat. long live jello biafra, henry rollins and ian mackaye!! they've done so much for punk as we knew and know it, and i'm thankful :)

My favourites are the staple 90s punk bands. BR, Pennywise, Lagwagon, Strung Out, the Crack Rock Steady 7 bands, Good Riddance, Millencolin, Satanic Surfers, Belvedere.

I like the punk rock beat which was pretty much only used during this time period.

Holy shit I forgot Agent Orange, the living in dARKNESS ALBUM, ONE OF THE BEST ALBUMS EVER RECORDED IN ANY GENDRE.
Broken Bones ans Suicidal Tendencies(early) need some representation too. Pre Henry Black Flag was also awesome. Henry FLag was good, but it seemed to stray farther away from Black Flag than I would like.
