Today in my aesthetics class a girl was trying to convince the rest of us that orgasms are art. Her reasoning (or at least as I remember) was that since they are man-made, intense notions of expressive emotion, they must be a form of art work. God damn, is all I have to say.
I expect that there are some, particularly in the lesbian community, who might argue that not all orgasms are MAN-made.
How are orgasms man-made? They're completely natural... Sex is art, the human body is art... What that girl said is kinda dumb.
hehe... I officially have a big goofy smile on. I dunno, people make art out of shit and piss and vomit and stuff... I guess orgasm-ing could be performance art?
If you think about it from that point of view then every function of the body is man made, and i agree. I guess that any kind of pattern produced by an organism can be considered art. It's a matter of what it means to the viewer that really counts.
I don't know if I agree with that. mabey that an orgasim is an act of art. But I really like that statement regaurdless. I really dig that it was said.
The human body is not man made.. so the functions are natural, we don't make them, we help them along but they're still natural functions.
Hey, but not all art is man made. Look at the sunset, look at flowers, look at seashells. I like the idea that an orgasm could be considered art. Maybe it's not as deep to the onlooker, but the person experiencing it... I think it's a pretty cool notion.
Well wait... who tha fuck says art is man-made? Now lemme babble on pretentiously here folks: The main thing about art is it's final judgement, it's individual interpration by those viewing it. Now don't let me undermine the process of creating art, that is important too.. but really, your shaping the anarchy of existence into something you HOPE will be interprited in the fashion you want (if of course you want a certain interpritation of your art). Now this is my opinion so I apologize for getting preachy. The word art, in my book, conotates the wonderfful reality of existence, Something exists, therefore it is beautiful... because it's mind-bogglingly amazing that anything exists at all. Now since to me art is a represatation of a beautiful thing (mind you good and bad are both) then there is no reason that art cannot be picked from the chaotic wonderful aftermath of life.... a tree is beautiful, a child is beautiful, death is beautiful, and yes, orgasms are incredibly fucking beautiful. So therefore, accordin' to my back-ass logic, a tree is art, a child is art, death is art, and yes, orgasms are incredibly fucking "art". Just my 2 cents.
What about abstract art? It isn't a representation persay. Also-- art doesn't necessitate beauty. Take Ut's photograph of burned children in Vietnam. That definitely isn't beautiful, yet it's still taken as a work of art. While I agree that orgasms are beautiful, I'd make a distinction between art and beauty.
art: any object or performance who'se primary objective is simply to be enjoyed. as distinguished from tools, utilitarian objects or organisms and cyclic phenomina in nature, such as are invariably co-beneificialy interlinked. all of which are also capable of having some artistic aspects of their nature, appearance or expiencing. such objects or performances may also inspire a desire to perform or create more and other objects or performances, even in this case, utilitarian ones as well. (as of course may experiences of placeness and in general the gratifications of wandering, exploring and discouvering) also; not a spectator sport but a catigory of activities everyone can in some form and to some extent participate in. art critic: someone who erroniously and arbitrarily defines art has having to have an emotional impact. =^^= .../\...
I now have some strange ideas regarding 'orgasm' art... but they're really gross and I will refrain from letting them be known.
The orgasm itself is not art. It's a biological response to stimulation. Its more like the artist signing their name at the end of a fine painting. There is however, an artform to making love. x
