None of the search sites like google, yahoo, excite, even wikipedia (sites that i live by) are working. everytime i try to do a search of something the "internet explorer as encountered a problem" box pops up. you know the one that gives you the options of whether or not to send a error report? and then explorer just shuts down. I did find that youtube is indeed working though. thats the only one. i dont know if its signifigant or not but i did used to here the click whenever i hit the search buttons and i still hear it on youtube. and usually when i get a pop-up i here that click and sometimes, more often than before, i just hear the click randomly when i'm reading the news or just typing like this.

Anyways, how can I get my search engines to start working again? someone please help. thanks

Yeah thats really weird, there is no reason that those web sites should not work while others do, especially google, you'd know if it was on their end, they put up some apology or something.

And stop using that piece o' crap called Internet Explorer.

    http://www.opera.com/

A most excellent browser, and highly customizable.

Just install Opera or Mozilla or Firefox, etc.

Upon completion, it should ask you what you want as your default browser. Click whatever you just installed.

Windows won't allow you to uninstall IE, but you can make it sit in the corner be be quiet. :)

I personally use Mozilla 1.7 with Opera as a backup.
http://www.mozilla.org/releases/ Click the full installer, 12 mb.

If you don't have broadband, it will take a while.

Opera is cool because it is has a small community of people behind it who create all kinds of custom skins for it. There are 100's now.

hey thanks for the suggestion on getting Opera. its been working great.

this problem actually arose after I did an ad-aware scan in safe mode. do you think that was the wrong move?

Have you figured out how to change the skins on Opera yet?

Go to tools/appearance. You'll get a little window that pops up. Select find more skins and a list will load. There are over 500 to choose from.

I like Lix, on page 1. A very nice blue and black glass look.

You can also fool around with the color scheme, and delete things off you don't want or need.

Sounds like you cocked your machine up with adware and spybots that follow your keystrokes.

Hope Opera keeps you online, but even it won't protect you if you don't learn how to maintain your machine.
