all they talk about is fucking each other. you also cant understand them half the time. some raps ok but very little

Because all they need to worry about is keeping words to a beat? And aside from that, maybe meter and feet and a rhyme scheme.

But rap is going to fall for the same reason that disco fell: too much self-focus. Seriously, who wants to hear about how many bitches 50 Cent clipped last week? It's over, rap is falling against R&B and assorted "hip-hop" anyways.

 

They sing about nothing but sex, money, greed, whores, murder and rape (both of which are promoted in rap songs) and they advocate materialism. Rap has made stupidity cool and "in". What do I mean? Mispelling words purposely, talking the "street way" which consists of unintelligent people speaking unintelligently...

The problem with rap is, musicaly speaking its shit, Its all in 4/4 time signature, medium paced, the only instuments used are single riff keyboard tunes and drums- fake simple drum beats that some looser just filled in the gaps on the computer.
Those rap gangztas dont even make their own music they just pay some guy to give them a drum beat. There is no musician ship, they cant play instuments, they cant play music, they are not musicians.

I think it's an oversimplification and overgeneralization to say that rap is 4/4. Very often, the backing track has a conventional pop beat, but often in those cases, the rapper adds his own meter which, in interaction with the beat, creates somewhat of a polyrhythm. If rap were so rhythmically simplistic, people wouldn't dance to it. Most often, either in the drum beat, the beat of the rapper's voice or both, there is a good deal of syncopation (a la James Brown) going on.

I agree that if the level of musicianship were higher, rap would be "better", but rap isn't just music. It is also a literary artform, so it has to meet the demands of being both musical and literary in a way that most other musical genres aren't.

 

Not all Rap sucks. I've heard some decent underground stuff with symbolic relation to life and current goings on which actually sums up the views of an individual.
But for the vast majority of the mainstream (and rap 'battle') shite, it's all repetitive ego boosting bullshit that amounts to nothing but a bullet in the head at the end of the day.
Leave the wannabe ghetto gangsters to it.
And these wannabe white boys who act black (Wigga's) should be fucking ashamed of themselves.
I wonder if they'd still want to be black if they were sent back in time a few centuries...

 

Rap has been around for two decades.
It isn't going anywhere.

 

Rap sucks, but hip hop can be very enjoyable. all you have to do is look, not all these dudes are talking about their bling and cars and bitches. check out immortal technique, or jedi mind tricks, or del the funkee homosapian. they focus on being able to flow instead of loud beats and saying the same shit as the next asshole.

 

Actually it's been around for three decades... and its developed a lot (for better or worse).

 

If it isnt apparent by now, I dont believe rap sucks. I am more into hip hop. Its all opinion. They dont all sit there and say "Im gonna fuck thes hoes, degrade women, and buy pretty things" More recently, rappers have been talking about love and all that jazz. The beats are rather simplistic but they all vary. The 4/4 measure makes it so you can two step easily. Alot of stuff, the artists do write on their own though. Some of it admitadely dont, butt hat just gives them more incentive to make the sound that much better. Rapping does take talent. I would love to see all of you rap, keep the flow and have it sound good. Maybe not nearly as much talent as say, Zeppelin, but it still takes talent. Back when Tupac and Biggie were blowing up they were just keeping it real. I think thats what its all about, and that makes me appreciate them all that much more.

 

Intellectual hip hop is worse listening than guns and bitches rap.
And yeah, I guess if you believe Rudy Ray Moore, rap has been around a bit over three decades.

Seriously.. Don't fucking judge after you've heard 50 cent or whatever, cuz that aint nothing.. There is political rap and so on with real messages and great lyrics..
And don't say that it is easy because none of you can do a good rapsong.

And if it were that easy that you describe it as, why don't everyone do it and get shitloads of money?
And btw, whats wrong with easy?.. Isn't the meaning that the music is supposed to be good?
That has nothing to do with how good music is..

Kool DJ Herc, Afrika Bambaataa, Cold Crush Brothers, etc. (rap artists proper) were around three decades ago.

If you don't like rap that's fine. A lot of the rap people prolly don't like metal, but I haven't seen any posts like this about metal...

Well I think rap sucks because the beats, the simplicity of it, and ebonics has a lot to do with it. It may be true that rap people don't like metal, but what reason do they give, I can guarantee you it is "It's all screaming", because that's all they listen to. Granted a lot of people on here were talking about the lyrics, but the majority of mainstream rap is all bullshit. And I don't like people talking about love in my music, because most guys just say that kind of shit cuz they want to get laid.

Rap doesn't have to suck, theoretically. I do find a lot of rap artists boring, but 95% of all metal is equally boring. I do really like the Gym Class Heroes.
