I couldn't imagine trying to understand Catch 22 stoned lol but "welcome to the monkey house' by vonnegut would be awesome
I remember my Grandma had this Big ass Book on Australia with allllllll kindza trippy ass picturez of sunsets an stuff I use 2 luv sneakin off with it when I waz high 2 look @ the pic'z lol
Jonathon Strange and Mr. Norrell. It's really hard to get into, and it's kinda of boring. But shit, the magic in that book is outrageous...
I dont really have a particular top-five, but I really like sociology reading when I'm baked. I always find it fascinating when authors break down society into bits and pieces for you to examine. Right now I'm reading 'The Culture of Fear' by Barry Glassner. I absolutely CANNOT STAND fiction (sober or baked).
Im gunna be honest- I find it tough to read when I'm high. It's a combination of: I can't focus on the material and I sometimes just feel like I'm reading way too slowly. I prefer to do it after coming down off of a high, that way I feel very calm and collected, with my thoughts in place.
leaves of grass, catcher in the rye, dune, anything by vonnegut but specifically slaughterhouse five, dharma bums, poetry by the beats, good poetry in general, robert frost, friends and I's poetry. Shit with good imagery is usually great.
1) Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas 2) On The Road 3) anything by Stephen King, esp. The Stand and Hearts In Atlantis I think I read the whole Dark Tower Series high 4) The Last Temptation of Christ 5) 1984 or Brave New World
also "salems lot" by stephen king i'm a SK fan if you couldn't tell... about to read the shining as well.
1)Heavier than Heaven-a great bio of kurt cobain, it's good stoned or not 2)Crank-as soon as I started reading this one I couldn't stop until I was done. 3)Living with the Dead-this book follows the grateful dead since they were the warlocks all through the 60's,70's and beyond. 4)Doors of Perception-this is definately a trip, I read this when I was in the 7th grade and it definately made me think about some things i've never considered before
1984 when stoned is a real treat. Also I second the mention of the dark tower series. Anything fantasy is just so great when stoned because the dimension becomes your dimension and you lose yourself in it.
Anything by Jack Kerouac, especially "The Dharma Bums." His writing is so uplifting, it's excellent while stoned. Also, I agree with anyone who mentioned stuff by George Orwell. Maybe not 1984, but definitely his autobiographical "Down and Out in Paris and London." It's about his experiences with poverty and is extremely easy to read (like most of Orwell's work.)
i read a lot and i'm high for most of it soooooo.... i'd say anything by terry pratchett, william faulkner, joyce carol oates (and anton chekhov's short stories... mmmmmm....) what not to read: "finnegan's wake" by james joyce. urghhgle.
yeah i cannot read when i am high. I will spend 15 minutes reading one paragraph, and then realize i was just reading the words and not thinking about what they meant. But i do enjoy reading when im ever so slightly buzzed.
ha! i wrote the last comment like a year ago and i didnt realize it was me so i was like "wow that person is just like me" lol but n e way i like reading heavier shit when im stoned--hmmm like david icke "i am me i am free" but sometimes that guys a creep though lol i also like n e thing on mental illness and the brain and how we need more spritualty in science and like how we need more heart in the law-- also THE GREATEST BOOK THHAT EVERYONE MUST READ THESE DAYS--concious evolution by dammit i dont remember the author... wow im such a scaterbrain--<3 ~peace~
well, I am nearly always high and I am a voracious reader, so I read it ALL high...now what I read sober and made me feel stoned was the Tao Te Ching...try that stuff on for size, if it doesn't give ya that fuzzy feelin in your brain I'll get you high to make up for the read!
