I.am.so.frustrated!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I have alot to say here, so try and keep up and follow along.

So, my family has a very odd living arrangment.
I live in a house with my sister, her husband, and their two daughters. Our parents live in a house right beside us. (LIke two feet away. we're connected by a big porch). ok? So, my other sister, her six kids and her husband move in the house over, with my mammaw living right up the hill from us.

Ok, so, (everyone but my sister who lives beside us,) we're all big time hippies. We're extremely enviromentally conscious and we are constantly trying to find ways to better our planet and prevent further global warming.
We don't go to church, but everyone except for me is a christian. We all get along despite religeous views.

OK, now. My sister, her six kids and her husband, are the COMPLETE opposite of the rest of us. They're judgmental christians who never take their noses out of their bibles long enough to see the damage that is happening to our planet and our own bodies.
My brother in law is constantly downplaying how we live and saying we're ridiculous, that global warming is a myth and that we're wasting our time.

He is always pulling me into these religeous conversations, trying to "save me" and suck me into their way of thinking. in Fact, I was talking to him the other day and he said, "God told me to turn my air conditioning as cold as it will go and sit back and relax". I pretty much had to hold myself off of him.
It's disheartening to try your best to help the planet and live a life that isn't affecting everyone else in a negative way, and then have your own family counteract what you're trying to do. It's almost like, why the hell try, the Beanes (that's their last name) are just fucking up everything we're trying to do...
What am I suppose to do?

It's like a little commune at my house and it would be lovely for the family next door to join in. I don't see this happening anytime soon, but I am just so bummed out and frustrated by them.

Sorry, I know it must be pretty fustrating having to deal with a situation like that so often. Especially for you considering you aren't christian right? In any case you have to remember that we are only alive for a short period of time and not everyone will agree, or understand, the way we feel about caring for something greater then ourselves. I can understand how you must feel, but try to remember that life is a spiritual process and some are further developed then others. It isn't a matter of age, but rather perception. In any case, it's family and despite how much of a headache they give you you can't help but still love them, even with what we may see as flaws and they see as virtues, All I can suggest for you to do is to try and come to a common understanding about what you believe and whats important to you, Once you have the foundation laid you can begin to try and help them to understand how and why you feel the way you do. But in return they as christians should try to be more supportive and compassionate about what makes you happy. Life is full of these little complexities but you'll prevail, I'm sure of it. Hell be glad you have a wide base of family you do get along with. Keep expressing your opinions and just walk off if they try to convert you.

 

Your brother in law sounds like a real JACKASS! People like that could be told a million times, but they will never get it through their heads until its to late. Your best bet is to continue the way your living your doing great! And ignore him, dont answer him excpet yes and no or unless you really have to, and a void him best you can. Thats what I would do anyway, its seems pointless to try and talk to a brick wall. I bet you've informed him as best you can about you global warming and told him about why you don't believe his religion. And thats all you can really do, and until he accepts things for what they really are, you can't do much.

 

sorry but Christians always do that, I did it when I was a Christian too, trying to tell people all about the happiness you've found through Jesus and shit.

Yeah, my family really is. I mean, him and my sister and their mob of kids are really the only "normal"ones in the family.

He's just another person who is so insecure in their beliefs that he must push those beliefs on other people so that he feels more secure in his "rationality".

Don't let it get to you, you're living a life that is far more natural and normal than theirs. Seriously, what makes a fucking air conditioner natural and normal? It's a device that's about as unnatural as they come...

 

please dont take this the wrong way, but this earth will be here long after we are gone and our kids kids are gone, so why the fuck worry about such stupid shit? I mean, 1 person or a couple of people can't change the world, and it is stupid to fight over such bullshit, , no matter how you try to change things, there will always be someone who dont like you, dont like that person , or dont like this person , there will always be someone killing someone, someone steeling, someone lieing , someone totally ruining their life, so why do you care?
You arent the only person in this world who wants to save it, but by turning on a a/c , it isnt going cause a major melt down of the earth in 1 day!
I feel this way, the earth has been here for millions and millions of years, humans have been here what? a couple thousand? and you really think, that with the way we act, the earth is going to just fall apart over night? or over the course of a couple of 100s of years? No hon, we will never see the end of this world, our kids wont see it, our kids kids wont see it, and i dont even think their kids will see it, the world will come to a end when it comes to a end, and i dont think it will be from global warming, i think it will be from humans blowing each other up cause of people like you who dont believe what other people believe, this is a great example of what is wrong in the world

there's nothing wrong with trying to protect and take care of your planet...whether global warming is true or not...it's called being a good person and looking out for each other...you're just sounding selfish and lazy.

my family doesn't respect my religious views either. in fact they act like they know everything about my beliefs. they make up stuff. my sister has a nice big comfy queen sized bed and my bed is the same old one ive had my entire life, the board on the bottom kept breaking so i decided to move it out and just sleep on the floor and when i carried it out she made a comment about magick, she made up a ritual. i don't even do magick. she gets new stuff all the time, and questions when i have to get rid of the one peice of furnishing in my room. I know sleep on the floor, just a white room with 2 guitars. I dont care though, I LIKE my room. if shes too spoiled to get why i can live with nothing but guitars and a mattress its her problem not mine. my brother thinks i praise Allah. another sister acts like Im still a Christian. my parents TRY to respect it but say really ignorant comments that have nothing to do with anything. I like the family on my dads side, nice country folk. they like to have a good time, sit back and listen to music and talk, they don't worry about material possession too much. I never see them cause my mom doesn't like them. the only ones i get to see are my dads 3 children. the other brother thinks Im completely retarded, he doesn't trust me because well...

my moms oldest was born when my mo was 16 she ran away and started raving at 14 and ever since then my mom has been way too protective, now she has a son and is engaged with one of the coolest guys I know. she doesnt have the best paast but shes really changed and is really cool, one of the few members of the family that believes animals have feelings and thought, she shares the same interest in art as I do, and is more open minded about other cultures and lifestyles, nothing to complain about there i guess. I get to see my moms family though! My aunt Joanna and her home schooled children, currently 3, soon to be 4 children. they dont tend to impose there beliefs on others, they just try to be nice folk. So I guess there is a bad and a good side to my family. too bad my mom tries to block me out from the good side most of the time. I guess thats my family in a poorly written nutshell for everyone.

Why bother worrying about it??!! Because its here now! The 5 hottest yrs ever recorded were all in the last decade. Do you know how many people died in recent years because of dehydration? Mainly elderly or young. Look at the weather do some research. Find out the truth. One person can help change.

And the worst part is that the evidence isn't new - its been around for a while and now its up to the current (maybe nxt) generation to sort things out b/c our lovely elders stuck their heads in the hands. Im not saying every older person but it could have been prevented still can. Also the worst effected people are gunna be those in LEDCs in poverty b/c people in the developed world who pollute the most won't do anything about it. Just because it hasn't effected you personally YET doesn't mean it won't, doesn't mean you can carry on polluting as much as you want.

That one person adds up. Think about it. Imagine one person with a ac on in every street. Then you have all the streets in the town then you have all the towns in the state, and states in the country. Now add this together with all the other countries and you'll see it does matter. ACs use alot of energy. Look at a road map that'll give you a sense of perspective but it doesn't mean give up. It means stop procastinating and do something.

Also you'll find it will effect you in your life, and if you have kids theirs too and your great grandchildren of course. Whether they live through it depends on what we do now.

Sounds to me that there's a lot of preaching going around.

I'm not saying I don't agree with you about global warming, but you should understand that what you think about them for preaching Christianity, they think about you for preaching environmentlism. Right down to the ever popular "Yeah, but my beliefs are fact and their beliefs are fiction" argument. So maybe you ALL agree to lay off each other and let each other live your own lives.

 

That's true to a point, except that global warming has a scientific consensus. Global warming IS happening, and there's no denying it. The only question that remains is, "how much are we contributing to it"?

As for Christianity, well that's a faith based belief system and as such, it will never be proven as fact or not.
