i think it's fundamentally flawed. human worship? pshhhhhh....the human worship of christianity, for one, is enough to make me critical, but to resurrect christ as a black ethiopian emperor? one who wants no part of the rastafarIan game? lol...that's even worse. however, most of the main principles of rastafarI (not the leonard howell doctrine mind you) are sound. Ital food and Inity and Livity. those parts of rastafarI are really exciting to me. respect for wisdom and the elderly, and the motto of ONE LOVE is enough to make me respect the nature of rastafarI without necessarily respecting the dogma. do YOU have any thoughts on rastafarI ?
yeah i think it is a good way of life, it appeals to me and makes me happy yeah the thing about that is a bit weird but today i started to belive it what with the prophecies but i dunno, taoism and buddism appeal to me aswell, not so much christinaty judasim islam
I think the question belongs on the Rasta site. I guess we could have similar questions about what Christians and/or their critics think about Islam, Buddhism, Taoism, Hinduism, Wicca, animism, etc. But there are other places for those religions.
if the rasta way appeals to you, by all means, follow what feels right. i've studied rastafarI for a few years and i find that i usually agree with most rastas about most things. the whole haille selassie thing doesn't do it for me, but the rest of what rasta is about is fine. works for me. and about the whole prophecy thing... it gets very elaborate once you do some digging. some people believed marcus garvey to be john the baptist's spirit and bob marley was a reincarnation of joseph (old testament joseph), and there's other prominent figures...some believe leonard howell to be john the baptist... buddhism and taoism is similar in some respects to the practices of rastafarI, but there are a lot of contradictions between the two also.
Buddhism and Hinduism are similar how? They are Dharmic religions. Rastafarianism is Abrahamic. The similarities they share are probably shared by all faiths. They have differences so vast it would take a whole thread to name them.
Portalguy, you're right, it would require a whole new thread. they are structurally different, being eastern/western, abrahamic/dharmic, but they have many points on which a buddhist and a rastafarIan could agree. taoism to a lesser degree, not so much as buddhism. i read a story one time about a group of english roman catholic monks and priests visiting a buddhist monastery in an Bangkok. the priests could not get along because of their difference in ideology, but the monks had no problem communicating with each other because the realized the universal truth found in both religions. the priests pick apart each other's religion with intellect, while the monks understood that the symbolic expressions used by the clergy are faulty. they relied on a more universal form of communication. they recognized each other as having the spiritual experience. if you really want to pick apart every aspect of each religion that contradicts each other, then do that. and i hope you gain insight and wisdom from that, but i'd rather play the part of the monk, understanding the universal truth that exists when one devotes themselves to a god or a faith, whichever god or faith that may be. if you really want an elaboration, though, start a new thread and ill be happy to share my thoughts. btw, here's an interesting website about a catholic group and a buddhist group that practice and pray together http://www.urbandharma.org/ i thought it was an interesting website, they even meditate on the same statue, being the virgin Mary for the catholics and Guan Yin Bodhisattva for the buddhists. interesting stuff...
FOOL, you know nothing of Rastafari, i suggest you do some research and not speak on the things you happen to over hear, aand i say that with no disrespeact. and i have no idea why this question was posted on the Christianity forum?????????? Jah Bless Peace
