Is there any camping on Sandy Hook? And if not does anyone know where the closest camping is?

Camping is only allowed at the Hook with a permit....permits are available to certain groups and organizations....like the Boy Scouts and such.....but you can camp at Cheesequake State Park (Matawan) for 20 bux a night....there are many campgrounds down the shore, but not actually on the beach....its pretty bum, unless you are a member of a private beach you are outta luck.....

Sandy Hook is part of Gateway National Recreation....aka the US National Park System.....its a federal park....they have Rangers who can and will kick your butt out whenever they want.

You can camp over night in Island Beach State park....Its right past Seaside. the only catch is you have to have a 4x4 cause its a 10 mile ride downt he beach. We do it alot and its awsome cause you are ALONE, there is nobody ever around, you can have a bonfire, and do what ever you want.

Ahh the over the sand permit....yes indeed.....works for me....as long as you have the list of 20 billion things they require on the truck...its all good....expensive though.
