This is without a doubt the most interesting entertaining book i have ever read.
It is the autobiography of howard marks who has had the most incredible life.
he is a welsh oxford graduate and worldwide hash smuggler who worked with mi5 the ira the itallian and japanese mafia and the cia. at the hight of his carrier he was smuggling 30 tonnes of hash at a time from pakistan to england then on to america and canada. but with about 60 pages to go he is arrested and sent to terre haute where he served 8 years of a 25 year sentance he is now free and living in tenerife smoking half an oz a day.

sorry about the vauge description but I have been testing out my new icemaster bong from roor. this really is a great book I highly recomend it

    ciao

IMHO Howard was working for British Intelligence all along the way.....

He's a nice guy though, and I'm sure that back in the 70's I actually benefited personally from his activities in Pakistan;)

BYW an audio version is available, read by the man himself.

It's a huge book travelling, half the people I meet are either reading it or have already read it. You can buy a photocopied version basically on any street block for a couple of bucks. So I did, and now I'm reading it. So far, it's fairly entertaining. It's definitely inspiring me to be more spontaneous though. I guess a good book is one that makes your "non-reading" hours of the day as good as the many you spend with your nose between the pages.
