it's not hard to make any kind of dreads by yourself. if you really want superthin dreads, just section them into thin chunks and backcomb those. like jademermaid said, just get a friend to help with the back. it's not going to look perfect like you want for months, if ever. let your hair do its thing and you will realize how lovely the journey is.
Some people make dreads with wax and some without.. whats the difference? And what happens if i stop using wax?
wax is bad. it will not allow your dreads to breathe and grow freely, it will just glue them together. at first, waxed dreads will look great, they'll be nice and neat and look tight. but they won't be, not really. wax causes mold and other nasty shit to grow in your hair. there's a link somewhere on the forum to a picture of the inside of a waxed dread - GROSS AND DISGUSTING. long story short: wax will make your hair look better in the beginning but will wreck it in the long run. have a head of messy madness for a while. in six months, you'll be glad you did.

i've used wax once, when they were made...i'm not sure anymore if it was a good or a bad thing since it really helped my dreads stay in form, it was icky for a day or two but like 2 weeks after that it seemed to be gone and haven't seen wax on my head ever since. wax still a bad thing but i think i can say i have a good experience...the guy who made my dreads makes the coconut/beeswax wax himself so it might be something special...but i still wont recommend it, it grossed some people out how waxy they were the first 2 days and some of it is probably stuck inside the dreads and that might get back to me some day so i'll keep washing with hot water just for case.
I use wax for special occations where my hair HAS to look spiffy. But I only wax about an inch of the tips.

Hm.. The guy that's gonna do my dreads says that you don't need dreadschampo, that you can just use warm water and ordinary schampo.. Ive read that you shouldn't do that^^ Why can't people agree that one answer is the correct one!?^^
that doesn't sound like a good idea...there's a lot of "i think this and i think that" stuff all over the web but all of the places i've been to agree, that normal shampoo might or will lead to mold and also hinder the dreading process with the slippery residues.
Ok.. I'll ignore what he says about that. His answer, when i asked about the schampo was: Yeah, they'll get dirty.. If you put shit in your hair everyday and doesn't clean it.
good luck. have you thought about doing them yerself?? or yerself and a friend?? its actually a lot of a fun (it CAN hurt though) and it would probably mean more to you to actually go thru the process, the pain... you'll see how much love you put into them. but to each their own. good luck!

But one thing is funny.. I stopped use wax for like 3 weeks now, just to see if i noticed any difference.. It feel alot thicker and better
that's basically what my hair looked like, except longer cause i'm a lady. i think you'll be fine. having dreads has actually increased the volume of my hair!
