ive recently been listening to post rock, and i cannot find many people who listen to this genre. ive been listenin to bands like Mono (my favorite in this genre), God Speed You! Black Emperor, God is an Astronaut, ...As the Poets Affirm, and Explosons in the Sky. so i just wanna know if anyone digs one this type of music and if theyll share groups they like in this genre
I'm a post-rock junkie as well. And I think I'd have to agree that Mono is my favorite--seeing them perform Halcyon live was one of the most powerful moments of my life. Other favorites are EITS, GY!BE, Mogwai, Caspian, This Will Destroy You, Pelican, Red Sparowes, and The Appleseed Cast. It's all such beautiful music.
Mono made me mad cuase they were on tour with World's End Girlfriend and they didnt come close enough to where i live. I would so love to see them in concert. The music in this genre is so amazing and beautiful thats why i also like it, its such a unique genre and it will be a glorious day when this stuff actually becomes popular.
I love post-rock. I saw Sigur Rós a few years ago. They're my favorite in the genre, but I like A Silver Mt. Zion and Godspeed quite a bit too. And Explosions in the Sky is excellent.
Mono are my favourite. Best non-noise rock band out of Japan, that's for sure. Yearning is such an explosion of energy. World's End Girlfriend that they recently went on tour with are well worth checking out as well, although that's electronica/post-rock. Some bands that haven't be mentioned: Talk Talk (the founders. Yes. I'm not lying), Slint, Cul de Sac, Can, Tortoise (how could you miss out Tortoise?), Bark Psychosis (just wow), Rachel's (they mix classical and post-rock, quite nice), and Glasgow's Mogwai.
I'd say go for Talk Talk's Spirit of Eden. Not a bad album. But for the buck, I'd take Talk Talk's Laughing Stock. What the heck does Post Rock mean?
