I just started this thread to find out how many forum members have heard of the Mars Volta, a great prog-rock band out of El Paso, Texas. They were formed by members of the now disestablished indie band At the Drive-in. I liked the first two full length Mars albums, De-loused in the Comatorium, and Frances the Mute, but the third one sucks. I'm eagerly anticipating the new one. What are everyone else's opinions of the group?
De-loused in the Comatorium, and Frances the Mute, as you said, are pure gold. I love how he switches from Spanish/English
Definitely. Walkthesky, how can you not love deloused, it is one of the best albums ever made, in my humble opinion. Nothing touchs the mars volta. Amputechture couldn't touch the first 2, but how could we expect it to? It's still mental - you can't dent that viscera eyes, day of the baphomets etc aren't amazing pieces. To all those who don't appreciate Cedric - you have to get into the lyrics, it takes a lot of work, but it's extremely rewarding, and adds another dimension to the hundreds they already have. He's a superb vocalist technically, even if you don't like his style. Who of you are mars volta freaks? You know who you are, don't be shy. They pull me in and I can't do anything else for weeks sometimes. But I love it more than anything else in the world.
after i hear a song on my ipod or on random itunes they are about all i can listen to for a week. They are an amazing band. Their technical abilities are amazing. I am floored every time i hear them
De-loused is quite possibly the most amazing piece of music on a technical level. The entire concept behind the album is outstanding. Take the Veil Cerpin Taxt is probably one of my most favorite songs of all time. I don't even call them the Mars Volta anymore. They're the Mars fucking Volta.
I listened to De-Loused pretty much back in the days when it came (2003 or something) but now I mostly listen to slower weird folk music and stuff, but I still think it's a magnificent album, even though I never listen to it anymore... At the Drive-In had maybe one good song or something, nothing more.
i cant even begin to describe my obsession with the mars volta.. maybe because the night i took waay too much acid they were right there with me.. cerpin taxt was just rediculous... (in the ealry cd 'tremulant' it is so clear that the band was on LOTS of drugs)...i was listening to the live cd scab dates in my room tripping with a friend when everything turned into sand and my walls werent there anymore, it was like we were in a vast desert but i was sand too, and i was being sifted away with the breeze yea
