So I sectioned backcombed and waxed my hair into dreads two days ago, and after a hard first day of manual labor (im not going back tomorrow) I was concerned with how my dreads were doing when I stumbled on this forum. I wish I would have found this place before wasting 19 bucks on some shitty dread wax. Anyway I am about to wash them out and get rid of the wax but i am concerned with what to do after that. Will my sections be gone? to dread naturally do you not section your hair at all? should I just use sea salt and patience to let them section by themselves? I would like to do this the natural way instead of just lubbing my hair up so advice would be appreciated. I've been lurking for an hour and have failed to find a how to guide so if there is a link will do. thanks.

if you want to do it naturally just stop washing ure hair so often, swim i the sea, use sea salt if ure gonna wash and after ages they will dread up amazingly or just get the wax out and backcomb them again or just take it out and leave them.

got any more questions then just look around here, maybe post for help. if nobody replies private message me n ill do my best dude

Hey thanks for the reply; I have a couple more questions though.

I have been trying to wash the wax out and it seems to be taking forever, i don't know if my water isn't getting hot enough or if it is just a painstaking and slow process to wask wax out can i get clarification about this?

Also I know you aren't supposed to wash your hair often, but what to you exactly mean by wash, do you mean shampoo or simply getting them wet in the shower? Is is ok to shower and rinse my scalp and dreads a couple times a week and then shampoo them less often or should I stay away from getting them wet in the shower at all? And should I let them air dry, towel or blow dry them?

thanks for all the help =)

washing your hair is shampooing it. i have a freind with dreads who showers sometimes 2-3 times a day. haha. but yeah, "washing" just refers to shampooing it, which i do once a week. as for the wax, i had wax at one point and i used water so hot, it really really hurt. and a toothbrush (new) helps to scrub it out. it's a pain in the ass, but it's worth it. and for the drying, i rub them with a towel, and let air dry, my brother uses a blow dryer. just whatevers easiest for you. it doesn't matter. like, hamish said, PM me if you need help

Wash with the hottest water you can stand, and use a good dishsoap, like Dawn, as shampoo.

Well thanmks to everyone with suggestions I managed to get the vast majority of the wax out by using a residue free shampoo and dawn foaming dish soap. It took probably 30min of dancing around the hot ass water in my shower scrubbing as hard and quick as I could.

Almost all of my "dreads" have fallen out except there are a good 4 or 5 that are still knotted up at the tips which are pretty sweet. I've been spritzing with saltwater and lemon juice and am starting down the process of the neglect method.

I'll get some pictures up sometime, im going hiking for a week. See ya.
