I hunt to regulate and eliminate certian species...in america you guys have too many grey squirrels and thats killing off the red squirrel population therfore id hunt grey squirrles to help the red squirrels out. Im an avid hunter and i love to hunt but before you go nuts with a flame reply please read the notes bellow I DO NOT HUNT FOR "TROPHYS" I DO ENJOY THE STALKING AND "BAGGING" PROCESS I DO LOVE ANIMALS I AM AN ANIMAL RIGHTS ACTIVIST! I DO BELEVIE THAT KILLING AN ANIMAL FOR NO REASON IS VERY BAD I DO NOT KILL THINGS FOR KICKS! I ONLY KILL FOR THE ENVIROMENT (SOUNDS WEIRD I KNOW) I DO HUNT ANIMALS THAT CARRY DISEASES LIKE RABBITS ONLY BECAUSE ITS PAINFULL AND INHUMANE TO DIE FROM A DESEASE! I DO NOT BELEVIE IN ANIMAL TESTING! I DO BELEIVE THAT HUNTING IS A GREAT SPORT WITH MUCH TO OFFER WE LIKE ALL OTHER ANIMALS HAVE TO DO OUR PART IN BALANCING THE ANIMAL POPULATIONS TO HELP ENDANGERED SPECIES OR THREATANED SPECIES That out of the way, hunting is a good sport but its just missunderstood i have great respect for every animal and i would rather spent 25 grand on a hunting trip and not taking the shot because the animal i was trying to bag wont die quickly then killing the animal! Most hunters have the same feelings as i do, we respect this earth and its creatures we also hunt them because thats our instinct and its natural to hunt!
Hey 60shippie; I am totally with you,I am very active hunter. The only thing that I can add to your list for reasons to hunt that you didn't have,is I hunt for food as a reward for the sport of hunting. If I ain't going to eat it,then I ain't going to kill it. Convincing the "bunnie huggers" that a quick death by a bullet or an arrow,is much more humane than an animal dying of starvation or sickness,I don't understand their logic in opposing the hunters. I am glad to see another hunter standing up and voicing their opinion, our numbers are slowly being reduced, because the younger generation is choosing to shy away from the human instinct to pursue game for the feeding of their families. It is a shame to see this happening. Thanks for your post.
You hear alot of that from hunters, but the real reason is it gives you a sense of power to control life or death. Power that is lacking in your life, for that few seconds you are the top preditor, your the one making the decisions. Not something normaly found in your life where others control the world around you. Sad really.
The new hippies are loosing OUR values we must remember hippies were ment for peace and love...Now we have conservation and vegaterianism animal rights eco systems if ur into that kind of thing your not a traditional hippie! hey 60'shippy im hearing you about traditional hippies and new hippies, i came into the whole hippy thing listening to my dad mumble on about the late 60's and his hitching rides around the country and jumping trains and about the people, it sounded so pleasnat, but when i got out into the world i found that old hippie dudes can be found and are better to talk to than newer hippies, they know what the hippie thing is all about, the peace and love, i live in berkeley, these neo hippie berkleyites are full of shit they are critical of everything! i have some new hippie friends that are true blue hippies, really out there living life, these people are some ofthe only people i trust any more, i in no way would trusta berkleyite, and both me and my hippie buddys know that hunting the over populated is good, when we reenact we go squirle hunting for food.
it is almost a necessity to hunt deer and moose in maine, theres so many of them up there and no natural predators
Yea ive heard ground squirrels are good chow! You should NOT fear the politicians you should FEAR no one and nothing!
I too am an avid hunter, I focus mainly on waterfowl, I am a firm believer in conservation, I belong to and donate to ducks unlimited and delta waterfowl, both are nonprofit and spend 90% of there money on wetlands conservation. I never have and never will shoot anything I don't intend to eat, and will not tolerate it from anyone I hunt with. Aside from DU and DW I also donate to the ASPCA and drop off dog food to the local shelter, (I live out in the sticks so there is not an ASPCA shelter around me)
i used to strap two shot gun shell belts to myself and grab my winchester pump for some water fowl action...now i use a benelli super black eagle II Fly Away edition with remington "hevi-shot" shells and they are badass for duck hunting2, i hunt not for my own food but also for my friends and i also give a lot of the meat i collect from hunting to the homless shelters and somtimes i will sell it to a bucher and in the end nothing gets wasted and everything is killed for a purpose that 99% of the time is non profit!
Yea back in the day i was pretty darn poor and i lived in a park and in my vw combie for a looong time from 1960 to 1975 i lived that way and i pefered living in the country because it was easyer to get free food, and its easyer to hunt there too! That van was soo awsome man it had a hydro setup and everything in it man, the van constantly reaked of fresh, dried and smoked bud ahh the days eh!
*UPDATED* HUNTING & CONSERVATION IN AUSTRALIA *UPDATED* HUNTING & CONSERVATION We work in the vast wilderness of the Australian Outback where Aboriginal Traditional Owners have a commitment to ensure their fragile tropical environment, native flora and fauna are not threatened by over population of Feral Game species. Hunting is a much needed conservation tool, and like farming, sustainable utilisation is also a source of food and income for local people. Hunters are dedicated responsible citizens who enjoy hunting and respect wildlife and the outdoors, they abide by hunting laws and codes of ethics. They must not be mistaken for poachers who kill or wound animals illegally. Hunters are active conservationists who spend their time and money in the field working together at protecting wildlife resources, endangered species and the great outdoors.
That's funny, I have just the opposite problem. In my area the reds are beating up on the greys. I have killed plenty of the reds because they wreck my shit.
