Right, okay, so I've been downloading a lot of Scrubs episodes and entire seasons. But all seasons I download using Utorrent somehow are entirely unwatchable, no matter if I try them in winamp, WMP, Realplayer, PowerDVD or whatever. You can hear the show's sound but the video screen stays blank or shows visualisation. No other video files give me any problems, not even other torrented videos. Does anyone know what's wrong and how this can be fixed? Please note that if I can't watch Scrubs, I will not hesitate to kill myself.
Codecs? I don't know anything about codecs. How do I figure out what kind of codecs I need? Thanks for the help.
Find out what format they are recorded in and download the necessary codecs, usually there are FAQs and help sections at these sites.
To be brief, A codec is used to encode and decode video, usaly to make them smaller. There are many different ones, with DivX (yes, with a big X) being one of the most common. Having only the audio and no video (or vise versa) is a sign that you have one of the required codec's but not the other (you need one for audio and one for video. It is worth downloading the DixX software, as that is a very common codec and if your going to be downloading videos you will run in to .avi files (.avi is the extension used by DivX - and several other - codex)
In fact, since I have DivX it also works on my trusty ol' Winamp which I do prefer as my all-round media player.
winamp most certainly is awesome, they don't have it/want it on this computer (my room is out of service :tongue
Actually, I am, and all my problems (at least those having to do with previously unsupported video files) have been solved!
Personally I would recomend VLC media player - I've yet to come across a video that I couldn't play with VLC. All codecs built right in
