it happens to me all the time, its not love! its infatuation & its superficial.... if you actually had the person & they were totoally devoted to you, you would probably get bored right away even if you dont belive it

Well said. I think it's a mechanism in our minds that pursues challenges, even in relationships. :)

subconsiously it seems to be easier being depressed, so without us realizing it our brains tell us to do whatever will make us the least happy overall

It's engrained in us from our ancestors to love the hunt! :) Honestly, I always fall for the guys who are inaccessible. I've been given the "friend speech" more than I care to say. I think for me, it's the need to persue something, and if I get it, I appreciate it that much more. At least for the time I have it. :)

the thrill of the hunt...hmmm...yeah that could be...maybe because evolution determined the best strategy was to maximize genetic health by looking further afield. otherwise everyone might have been doing their sibs and other close relatives...and producing inbred offspring...after all, it would be easier.

Actually, that was supposed to ensure that the bloodline stayed "pure" back in the very old days. Powerful families, royal families, 'magical' families (shamans, medicine men, etc.) would marry within thier line so that they would keep a pure, strong bloodline. They were too dumb to know this was a bad idea at the time. But I like your theory. ;-)
