bunjies: ok... Lets presume your not high and.. No but serious, i get obsessed of things and im a 'thinker'. Since i was little i hav had this thoughts, that if i have high expectations it will go bad, and low, something will turn out good Thats the way i am^^ And about my looks, i don't really care.. don't think im beautiful, but lets put it this way: ive seen uglier people so i should be happy^^ Looks isn't such a big problem Sorry about your mother :/.. but i can tell you this.. don't think mothers was put on this earth too dread hair.. ive considerd it and i think i let someone else do it^^ thanks //lutfish
I've heard that using horse shampoo makes human hair grow quicker, but it probably has residues in it so only use it if you are wanting to dread after your hair gets to a specific length.
just chill man, it took me almost 3 years to pull myself together and grow my damn hair long enough, it started getting long enough so many times and i was like "oh man it'll take forever, i'll look like a douche with long hair, what should i do blaah blaah" and just cut it, every single time i fricken started regretting it DURING the hair cutting. as i got older and more and more into rastafarism, i started to realize that it's just plain stupid, if i want dreads i'll fricken grow my hair and do it, couldn't be more awesome now, i feel great, they look and feel great, everything's fricken great! while growing my hair i had the "omg my hair is falling out!" thing too for a while, started to get paranoid about lots of stuff that could happen to my hair and so on...i also kept thinking about how i'd look with dreads..in other words, im a 'thinker' too and have always been one, i think too much and the more i do, the more negative i get about stuff...but after some time i yet again realized it's just stupid and i just relaxed and looked forward to my dreads...been over 5 weeks now, everything's cool (sorry if the post is a bit...weird...im a bit smoky)
phen: Oh thanks relief too hear that im not the only one.. how long were youre hair when you dreaded it?
my hair..hmm, the front reached down to my chin and it was around shoulderlength +- at the back...don't know the exact length but basicly it covered my head + half of my neck at some points. since i wanted round tips the dreads came out a lot shorter (the ones in the front reach down to my nose for an example), it's pretty short but im happy, you can see some pics in my thread, it should still be on the first page. i was kind of afraid to mess things up so i went to this guy who's been making dreads for 5-6 years (in his home, not a salong or anything) and he charged me 700 EEK..which is..lets see, around 60 USD
Oh, thats about my lenght before i got a haircut.. so i need about 2 inches in the frontside and 4-5 all around. Ok i'll go check it out :] Oh thats pretty good. Here in Sweden, in salong, it cost about 220 USD and with fake hair, 661 USD... And thats real human hair.. So.. You know, it ain't the cheapest thing ^^ But i've found some guys who does it for about 73-88 USD. Thanks, again you've helped alot //Lutfish
dude, no need to be sorry bout my mum, i know she's happy but thanks for caring as for the obsessed and thinking... right there with you man lol! btw you can start the dready process right this minute if you want to, just chuck your brush in the bin and go natural
You're cute. I don't think you're losing your hair. My good friend totally is, and your hair looks nothing like that, lol. Kinky hair = hair that has kinks in it? I don't know how else to describe that. Whatever kind of dreads you want, then do it. Don't let anyone sway your decision, because you have to be happy with it. Dreads are definitely a committment! There's pictures of my dreads in my gallery, they look more like the picture you had just posted of the ones you didn't want. Mine are slowly, but surely coming along. But, I can't answer the fake hair question... I know nothing about those, and have never looked into it because I've never been interested. You don't have to pay for dreads at all! You could probably do most of them yourself. I did my entire head, all except one dread, myself. So long as your mother knows how to section hair, and backcomb, you'll be just fine. It doesn't take a specialist to make dreads
I've used Mane and Tail before.... it worked for a bit, I suppose, but it began to leave my hair pretty gross in the long run. I don't know. I don't think it works much differently than regular shampoo. But if dude wants to give it a whirl, he could probably try using it for a while until his hair grows, and THEN stop using it, and switch to a dread shampoo and all. *shrugs*
One more short little note: I totally don't understand why you'd pay anyone to backcomb your hair??? Honestly... they'll end up turning out just as nicely if you or a friend does it for you. Backcombing is only the beginning of the entire process, and half of them will loosen up, possibly even fall out, before actually knotting into dreads... whether or not you get them done by a "professional" Save your money. Buy a flea comb, and grab a friend that has two hands and is able to use a comb backwards, lol.
Oh.. thanks.. Always better too know that someone got a much worse situation ^^ Ooh.. Im not english.. Thought you mean't kinky kinky :].. I blame it on swedens bad teachingsystem :] Ok, but as i wrote in a previous post, i found a guy who has done it before and cheap
The thing is, i used to be a perfectionist (but not now) so if for example two different people does dreads on me, one is a pro and one has never done it before, if the results are the same i wouldn't get as satisfied with the "noob" as with the pro.. Something thats gonna haunt me for life
man, fake dreads is a NO, it kills all that dreads might stand for for people...freedom, lifestyle, uniqueness and so on and on. having someone elses hair on my fricken head would never let me live in peace, its just fake fake fake. i had a classmate with ""dreads"", his own hair was like 1 inch and black, the fake dreads were poop brown and shoulderlength...that's probably the worst case but any kind of fake dreads wouldn't make you better than that...now i'm sure it just crossed your mind and it's your own hair and you can do anything you want with it, but that's how i feel about these things, sorry if anyone here is offended by this. we seem to have (had i suppose) a lot in common about that perfectionist thing, i think exactly the same and I think it paid off...i knew backcombing myself or letting a friend do it wouldn't work out that great since absolutely noone has or knows anything about dreads among my friends so i contacted this cool guy who helps people out with their dreads and i guess i'd consider him a "proffessional" if you want to put it like that, it's only normal that he charges money (response to Apples+Oranjes) since the process takes hours and i was more than happy to pay the guy for something what i like to think will stay with me forever. i don't agree that the results will be the same, from self experience (i only have about 5 weeks of that tho) backcombing can go wrong(ish) too, mine are nowhere near falling out (is it too soon to judge that?) but i know alot of peoples backcombing results have fallen out...don't get me wrong though, everyones dreads are wicked awesome regardless of if they're backcombed, neglect or a mix of that, i just wanted mine backcombed (as a perfectionist in a way i guess). just remember, Jah is sitting up there in Zion, having a cup of tea with Bob and watching over people with dreads and making sure everything will go aight with people who want dreads
Yeh, that was what i was afraid of.. im gonna save, i have decided. Thats how i thought too.. Dreads aren't an ordinary haircut, and if i let the guy who does it for about 74$ it isn't that expensive and i wont have to do it again (hopefully). Now im gonna go make an own dread :] but just one.
i had an appointment scheduled to get my dreads done, but at the last minute i decided that if i was going to go with dreads, i wanted them to be my own. i didn't want to pay anyone to do what i could do on my own. i did the front and a friend did the back. sure, some fell out, but with wool rubbing, wearing a tam, and swimming in the ocean they are starting to really lock up. and it's only been three weeks! my advice: do it yourself because you will really feel a connection to them. you'll save money and you'll own them. your hair is going to do what it wants to do, whether or not a professional stylist has his or her hands on it.
Thats a way too look at it aswell.. But is it easy to make thin backcombindreads by yourself? And btw, if i don't get satisfied with my own, i can just get it done all over again by some guy that i pay?^^
You probably want a friend to help you out, especially in the back. Rent a couple of good movies and make a day of it!
