My first tattoo was yin yang with cats instead of dots. I had a black cat Sam and three years later a white cat Sam, who may have been the first Sam returned. It represents life, death, and rebirth.

well i havent gotten it yet, but my tattoo is gonna be a tramp stamp and its going to be a shamrock and have a staff with music notes coming off the sides. Ya know kinda like a tribal but a staff instead. I think I was doodling one day and came up with it, im not sure haha but I am Irish and I love music so thats really all there was to it.

I want the word freedom on my back
or the back of my neck.
Or at least a symbolic representation
    of freedom.

but people are dumb and ask if its howard stern or bob marley =[

but its nice when someone comments about it knowing its john because they know who he actually is

got mine done when i was 16, it's a red rose with a scroll that says dad. my dad died when i was 11 so i always said when i was old enough i would get a tattoo done for him, i know 16 wasn't old enough but i got away with it.
Also going to get another one done with my kids names, but not thought of what it's going to be yet and i'll get one done for my mum as well.[IMG]

My latest tattoo (this is my sixth) is a half-sleeve...currently, it's just black and gray, but I'm getting it finished next week.

It is inspired by the Dr. Seuss book, "Oh the Places You'll Go!" I was going to get a half sleeve of really trippy psychedelic swirls and stars and such, but after trying to find something to show my tattoo artist and COULDN'T, I told myself that it shouldn't be this hard...

So then I was packing stuff to move and found my old copy of the Dr. Seuss book that I got at my Kindergarten graduation, then remembered that my favorite teacher on the last day of high school also read us this book...so I was reading through it and realized how perfect it was...

It's the story about a boy who is moving on to new things and although things will be both good and bad, he'll be alright in the end...and finding this book came at a perfect time because I'm moving across country to a new place, new job, new everything...and although it's scary, everything will be alright. This tattoo is helping to remind me of that. :)

I designed my own tattoos since I am an artist and usually prefer my own work, especially for something that will permanently be on my body. Here are the two tattoos I have right now (I only have the drawing of the design, not a pic of the actually tattoos on me):

It doesn't really have a meaning, I just like stars and the simplicity of what I designed. The closest I could come to a meaning was that I'm a Muslim and though Islam doesn't have a symbol for itself (like how Christianity has a cross), a moon and star is often used in architecture for mosques and other religious things.

I have to wait about 11 months before my first tattoo. But, I will say what I have planned.

I'm planning on getting a closed lotus blossom (white) between my shoulder blades.
The closed lotus blossom means that I am still looking for full enlightenment and the color white stands for purity of the mind and body.

*A lotus with a little butterfly on my right forearm. One day during a sort-of hard point in my life (everyone has one of those!), I was at work REALLY stressing out. I was just about to lose it and could feel myself getting ready to blow, when suddenly a doodle I'd drawn on my forearm caught my eye. It distracted me for a minute and pulled me out of the earth, just for a few seconds, and when I came back I suddenly felt completely in-control and calm. So I decided to do my first tattoo there, to remind me that everything I need is within me whenever I start to feel stressed :)
*A carnation with "strength" in my mum's handwriting on my lower back, because carnations are her favorite flowers and strength is a word I've always associated with her. I got it when I moved out because living on my own, I got to thinking about how much I love her and I wanted to do something for her- she loves it and got a matching one!!
*2 ladybugs wandering my leg and my back randomly, because wandering randomly is something I want to do for the rest of my life

My latest tattoo is of a little rastafarian dancing girl placed on my upper right breast / shoulder. It is taken from a friendship pin that was given to me by a dear, dear friend who has died of breast cancer complications this past year. The pin was actually in black and white, I added the rastafarian colors because Lee LOVED Jamaica.

The pink "v" flower is for my mom, the yellow "R" is for myself, the teal "K" and the purple "A" are for my sisters. We all got the same tattoo in the same spot on the same foot... it was awesome to share the experiance with my favorite women! None of them had tattoos before this afternoon!

My last tat was the one I put the most thought into. It's a shamrock with a trinity symbol in each leaf. At the time, I was in a triad and my girlfriend drew it for me. Each leaf symbolized the three of us. If my name hasn't given it away, I'm part Irish and I wanted a shamrock, but I wanted one with some meaning behind it. The relationship was fragile at the time, so I chose a line from the song "40 Grand in the Hole" by Mike Doughty to go around it. It says "What is a life without my heart at risk?" Right before I got it, I met the man who would become my finacee, so the line about my heart being at risk really meant something.

I have a blue sun tattooed around the aureole of one of my breasts. Having been born on the winter solstice, I have always equated my birthday with a line from Neruda ... "The stars are blue and shiver in the distance" because on that date, the Earth is its farthest away from the Sun.

I have a phoenix on one of my shoulder blades; I suffer from recurrent major depression and I got that one done after a dreadful, life threatening episode because I felt like I had risen from my own ashes.

I have a pair of swallows on my back with the words "I will not be a victim" tattooed under them in banners. I got this tattooed bc growing up there was a swallows nest by our door, and I loved the way they flew. The words are song lyrics, but also a constant quote from my mother to keep my head up.

I have three cherry bloosoms on my rib cage. They represent me, my mother, and my birth mother. With out one of the flowers the design would be incomplet. It took all three of us to give me the life i have now.

My newest piece is a cover up. My Gypsy represents so much to me. she is my wanderer, she is a representation of how i view myself. she symbolizes freedom, and a connection with others and spirituallity to me.

I also have the outline of the state of texas on my foot. simple, but its there because my roots will always be planted where my family is...in Texas.

got my first almost a month ago, Carpe diem! wrote in old english arched across the top of my back almost from shoulder to shoulder and under it is a nautical star all black and white cuz i love black and white tattoos and i drew it up myself, i thought of it at a party one night me and a buddy were laying on a trampoline cuz we couldn walk and looking at the stars and talking and thats when the idea came to me and i added the star becuz of wat we was doing at the time i ended up getting it the next weekend.
for those of you who dont know what carpe diem means it means sieze the day or gather the day its latin better meaning would be a quote from the bible that says eat drink and be merry fore tommorrow we die. just basicly live every day to its fullest because it could be your last
