So I am new to this site and I like this forum it has a lot of different topics. I have not seen much about making honey oil with butane. It is so fast and easy. Now you use a flammable gas so this is a little dangerous but just about any one can handle it and it is helpful to have some one who has done it before with you. I have seen many different contraptions used to make it but a FOAF made one using a stainless steel turkey baster.
Turkey baster extractor 1. You find a metal turkey baster with the little screw in end that kind of looks like a needle. 2. Now you need a cap on the end of it to hold your screen on so it does not shoot your green out the end. A FOAF used a brass fitting that was the same size that a garden hose because the large end of baster was a little bit smaller then the end of the cap that has the threads in the inside. The fitting had a little bit of a taper to keep the screen form coming out the end but there is a hole all the way through. A screen like for a pipe is need to be cut to go in the cap just so long as it does not come through the cap. 3. Then electricians tape was used to wrap around the large end of the baster to allow the fitting to screw on. 4. The needle end needs to be altered. The needle probably has a diagonal cut on it that needs to be cut off, a FOAF used a Dremal tool to cut it off, then the end needs to be bored out a little to allow the butane can nozzle to fit a little in it. A Dremal tool was used for this too. 5. It is ready to be filled with your green material. You don’t want to pack it to tight or it will build up too much pressure and it wont saturate it all. When the baster is filled you need to screw the cap on with the screen. 6. For butane you need to find the cleanest that you can find like at least 4 if not 5 times refined. It will leave behind a white residue in the dish if it is not clean. You need a flat glass dish like a Pyrex dish. 7. THIS IS VERY IMPORTAIN SO YOU DON’T HURT YOUR SELF OR OTHERS. You need to go out side in a safe place or in a well ventilated area; I suggest you don’t do this inside that would be very dangerous. Now you set your dish down and hold your baster with the big end aimed at the dish. Put the butane can nozzle on the needle end and push and allow the baster to fill up. Do a couple of 10 to 40 second bursts well you rotate the baster the best you can. Butane and oil will come dripping out the big end and drip in to the dish. Make sure to not splatter or miss the dish or you will lose some. You want to then let the butane evaporate until there is just a yellow film. If there is any chunks in the oil you might try putting a coffee filter over the end before you screw on the cap. The baster will get cold so if you feel that it is too cold you might want gloves. Also try not to breathe the butane too much because it is not real good for you a couple of tubes is nothing but if you do a bunch you might look in to a mask. 8. NOW AGAIN FOR YOUR OWN SAFTEY THE PRODUCT IS NOT DONE DO NOT SCRAPE AND SMOKE YET. There is still butane in the oil so you need to ether let it sit out for 24 or 48 hours or longer; I dont realy know how long but make sure there is no butane left in it; or you can give it a hot water bath. To give it a hot water bath heat some water up and set the glass dish in it. Make sure to not get any water in the dish. The oil will start bubbling so continue to heat until the oil stops bubbling. If you leave the water on a stove or something don’t use a gas stove. Once the bubbling has stopped you can scrap with a blade and smoke. A FOAF has found that only a pin head to a small match head size chunk is needed in the bowl. A FOAF has even used stems and made good oil. Once you have the baster made it can be done easy and fast when ever. BE CARFUL BUTANE IS VERY FLAMABLE YOU DON’T WANT TO BLOW YOUR SELF OR SOME ONE ELSE UP. If this seems too complicated then you might not want to attempt unless you have some one with you that can handle it. You can make one out of other materials too like glass and copper any thing that will not react or leech in to the butane. Materials not to use include PVC pipe and galvanized. So have fun but be careful.
Well my FOAF has been doing some experimenting to try and figure out a way to let the green steep in the butane. This is a little more dangerous but you get more out of the green. He has found that if you take a small mason jar like a jelly jar and find a lid that does not have the center lose on it not the normal Mason jar lid. He got one off a spaghetti sauce jar; you need this because the normal lid can not hold the pressure. Now he put his green in the jar and put it in the freezer until it was completely cold. This helps so that the butane does not evaporate as fast. Then it was taken to a safe location and the baster extractor was used to fill the jar with liquid butane just above the green level. Then the lid was put on and it was brought to the freezer again to reduce the pressure build up. Now this is probably not the smartest thing to do but if you had a freezer in the garage that might be a little safer. It is allowed to steep for 15 to 30 min or how ever long you feel fit, shaking it every once and a wile. To make pouring easier it was then poured in to a glass measuring cup and finally into the evaporation dish. You end up with a little bit of green material in there sometimes but that makes the stuff easier to scrap and deal with. If you wanted to you could probably pour it though some kind of filter. Having the 2 pours seems to catch some of the solid partials too. This seems to work very well because you get just about every thing out of the green this way. He needs to figure out some kind of one way valve that could be put on the lid so that not as much butane is wasted and the baster is not needed. Be careful when pouring butane because if it is heated fast like poured into a warm container it can boil rapidly and boil out.
Just want to point out that people have been killed in accidents making hash that way. Its something to keep in mind, if you are even thinking about it.
