I think Ithaca might be your best bet. Well, if you end up south of rochester make sure to check out Pollywog Holler in Almond!!!
it does. http://www.pollywoggholler.com it doesnt really show what pollywog is fully about though. it has a huge music dome for jamming, an opened bar and they make their own wine. you can go intoa suana and hang out or go over around a large lake with wooden "rooms" and its all through the woods, the trails and woods are loaded with random art work and sculptures, awesome place. they have jam bands up there wed. and sun.
Ithaca is Great.. I lived there for a while..... Also I have to put in a good word for New Paltz as well......... Great Cliffs.... cool people.... either town, ya cant go wrong.... and I also heard the Arts program there was VERY good
i have not been to many places in ny, but so far ithaca amazes me with its hippie crowd. i live in cortland, i would advise you to not come here, its a bit conservative. peace
hey man... long time no talk huh!? I don't know if you know this..but I live like an hour away from ithaca now.. lol. I'm in syracuse and don't really like the city here but I LOOOOVE ithaca. good to see you around!
I live in Dutches County, but love to go over to Ulster County and visit the towns of New Paltz and Woodstock! There are many great things to do, shops, restaurants, great outdoor activities, very diverse!
Woodstock and Nyack have expensive housing costs. Binghamton and the Western Catskills are cheaper places to live. less employment though. Check out Sugar Loaf Village in Orange Cty. a small crafts village catering to tourists.
flowerpower420, where are you in dutchess county? i grew up in wappingers / hyde park, but ended up in new paltz, which i consider home.
I totally agree with all above mentioned towns....I don't recall seeing Warwick and Sugar Loaf....really nice as well.
Aside from the places mentioned, there are Cold Spring and Garrison, and on LI, Northport. The city of Hudson is getting quite hip. Housing is reasonable and it is considered one of the coolest places to live in the US, according to a profile I read in a travel magazine. I live in Dutchess County and have found that there are hip enclaves to be found in Poughkeepsie, Newburgh, and Beacon. However, one must seek them out by exploring cultural activities and bar hopping.
Love New Paltz very cool place. We spend alot of time in Woodstock, Phoenicia (where we live at the moment), Fleischmanns is another up and coming town few, art galleries on main street about a 20 minute walk to the Belleayre mountain. and very Cheap! We are closing on a house there next week. - Buy the way - love the ink! is it local?
