I like all of those bands in different ways. OM is the best, though.

I always felt something negative about OTC and i think your kinda right, but they have some quality stuff but for the most part i agree that they try too hard.

I haven't heard Essex Green, or OTC.

However, NMH, OM, and TAIS are all great.

In The Aeroplane Over The Sea is such an amazing record. I dig Of Montreal, but I have mixed feelings about Hissing Fauna... I don't think its as good as some of Kevin Barnes other work.

    DUUUUUDDEEEE....

I am about 99.9999% sure that there is NO WAY I COULD EVER BE FRIENDS WITH KEVIN BARNES, yeah he does give of that "I am SO FUCKING INTO MYSELF" vibe.

However Of Montreal is IMHO one of the best bands of our era and their music collectively is FUCKING GREAT.

I am lucky enough to live in Athens, GA so I am VERY familiar with all the bands mentioned. We have a lot more than REM in this town!

i never cared for apples in stereo, or any pre-hissing fauna of montreal lps either.

but this was definitely an awesome little scene many years ago! i saw otc live and they started off the show playing "grass canyons" on drums while walking through the crowd. they totally kicked our asses.

Dude I've heard wonderful things about MAN MAN.

They were in the list of top ten best bands from Philly last year according to Philadelphia Weekly.

in my opinion, man man has some really really awesome stuff that gets my hips cruising, and then they have some really dreadful stuff that i can hardly listen to (like the fee fi fo fum song... or that other one that does doo-wop not particularly well at all).

but yeah their highs are amazingly high.
...s'just that the lows are equally as low :/

Kind of an old thread but..

I just wanted to let everyone know I saw Elf Power last week in Hambden, CT. They're a great Elephant 6 band and they aren't yet mentioned on this thread.

All of those aforementioned bands, plus Casper & the Cookies... Modern Skirts... Summer Hymns... Let's not forget Beulah!!!!!! The list is endless, but of Montreal tops mine. Can't wait for them to release Skeletal Lamping! :)
