This made me throw up a little...not just because they found the fetus in the fridge, but also because authorities want to try to give these SIX kids back to the parents...for the SECOND time... Bunch of goddamn sickos. http://news.aol.com/story/_a/officials-find-refrigerated-fetus-in/20070719042409990001?ncid=NWS00010000000001#cmntbgn
oh my god i live in that town. slightly on-topic, and written before i read that article... i'm taking developmental psychology right now and my teacher does therapy with kids at the local children's advocacy center and said lubbock has the highest rate of child sexual abuse in texas. and texas is a pretty big state. scary.
Did you not hear about this before, Elyse? Any other info you might now about this case? Why do you think Lubbock has the highest rate of sexual abuse? Now I wonder how great their CPS is
no i hadn't heard about it. yesterday we were talking in class about somebody putting their baby in the microwave to dry it off... i can't find anything online about it happening in lubbock though. i honestly have no idea why the rate of abuse is so high. i do remember my mom telling me about a coworker of hers (she's a nurse) who used to be a school nurse and having a child who was constantly changing schools and didn't want to go home when she had a fever, but she sent her home anyway... she was pretty sure the child was being abused but for some reason didn't feel she could do anything. which i think is bullshit.. especially since you're obligated to report abuse as a school nurse, but maybe that is a reflection of the actions the state takes. it's also unfortunate that social workers and psychologists who have their masters and phds are barely making any money
Apparently it was on Channels 11 and 7 down there... The woman was 26...with seven kids...married to a 40 year old man... Sheesh...
The department is required by law to work to reunite the family if officials feel they can do so safely, Cunningham said. i found this here http://www.lubbockonline.com/stories/071907/loc_6711254.shtml ... in the other article it just says they're going to try to reunite the family but doesn't say because it's required by law. couple other side notes.. i found it interesting that in a senior level psychology class about 2/3 of the class was against breast-feeding in public, and much more were pro-spanking. do other states have corporal punishment in their schools? my parents had to sign a paper when i started highschool here saying they didn't want the vice-principal to paddle me if i did something bad.... instead i would go to ISS. i don't remember that in california or hawaii.... and i find it really strange.
yeah i couldnt' find an article on channel 11's site. it's so shitty. reading this stuff makes me so mad
man thats where im from to...so sick...Im in the college of human sciences at Texas Tech, and they try to do a lot through education of parents and kids (headstart and some other programs) but some people need like psyciatric help reallyl.
Safely? Hell, they already took the kids away once. AND the state of their home from what I read was ridiculous...plus two of the kids may have been dehydrated...between the seven of them, they ate 1 hot dog for breakfast. I don't think that's very safe! Don't you agree??? Very strange... Corporal punishment from what I know is illegal here in Michigan...that's so out of my frame of referance to think about corporal punishment in schools...did you go to a public or private school, Elyse?
http://www.stophitting.com/disatschool/facts.php#U.S.%20States%20Banning%20Corporal%20Punishment Texas has the highest number of students hit in the nation...disgusting.
yeah it's a public school. i actually knew a lot of kids who preferred to be hit than sent to detention. a spanking takes like two minutes and then you're off back to class or whatever. detention/ISS can be three days in a cubicle
that story is sickening and yes, i would have preferred to have been hit/spanked instead of ISS or detention
