You don't have to fit the steryotypical image of a Hippie. Hippie is sort of like a philosiphy really, there is just a general look associated with it.

I don't even like to refer to myself as a Hippie. I prefer freak.

Long hair was a strike against the short crew cuts favored by the hippies elders in the 60s, it was anti fashion. Be your own person, wear it like you like it, not to fit any stereotype, or to fit in.

Having long hair or no hair is actually a statement of spirituality. In the same way the Rastafarian's have dreadlocks, the monks shave off their hair. It is really a statement regarding the overcoming of physical looks and their hold over you. It's the true embodiment of "live and let live" philosophy.

Now, this doesn't mean if you don't have one of the two you can't truly embrace the philosophy. Historically, it is the route people take when they achieve a certain spirituality.

Hope this helps! In my opinion; just do whatever the fuck you want. The "hippie" mindset is just that. If you embrace it, you are one. If you don't, then your someone else.

Hair doesn't have to be long. Hair is unique, hippies are known for being unique, if we all had the same hair...it'd kind've be like conforming you know?

you don't have to have long hair.
i mean you can wash your hair alot or not wash it at all and still be a hippy.
its all really what you like.
i prefer to not wash mine alot though. but thats just me. hahah

I don't like washing mine either. If I do, it's usually with water because my conditioner only makes it really greasy and gross.

I don't think hair length matters, unless you want to look like a stereotypical hippie. Personally, I keep mine long because during the winter and summer it protects the back of my neck from the coldness of the snowflakes and sunburn respectively. The skin on the back of my neck is really sensitive for some reason.

The movie "Hair" illustrates that cutting your hair may and probably will lead to death in Vietnam.

Watch out hippie, don't cut your hair.

I think I speak for everyone here when I say that YES your hair MUST be long for you to be a hippy. Sorry buddy, looks like you'll be getting banned now.

Cam' an' you're not serious about that right? The whole point is IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT YOU LOOK LIKE AT ALL

I wouldn't cut mine, I like it long, but if I could, why wouldn't I be a hippie anymore?

If God had wanted us to cut our hair he would have put barber chairs in our rec rooms.
