My b/f and I keep having condoms break on us. We use the larger kind that fit him very well, but still they seem to break. We use trojan magnums. Is there anything that we can do to prevent condoms breaking? I will not go on birthcontrol because it messed up my body the last time I was on it, but I would rather not get pregnant at this time in my life.

    Peace

I really can't imagine breaking a condom. I hear folks on here talk about it all the time, but it seems impossible to me.

How exactly do they break??? AND, what EXACTLY are you doing to cause this??? Hmmm???? ;)

Seriously, the last time I was in the neighborhood, there weren't any sharp edges "down there," and everything was all warm and slippery. :D

The only thing that makes any sense to me would be if you have defective condoms, or if you damage them somehow, say with sharp fingernails, toys, or jewelery.

Are you using any lube or spermicide?

Depending on the base of these, it might be breaking down the condom and weaking them so they do, in fact, break...

Is your boyfriend circumcised or uncircumcised? I have a theory that sometimes condoms break on uncut guys if the foreskin goes back and forth inside the condom as he thrusts in and out. Tell me if I am wrong...

All right, since there seems to be some speculation going on in this thread, I'm going to verify that yes, condoms do in fact break, even with cut guys, and even with no previous damage via teeth, nails, etc.
Basically, the couple times that I've had one break, we were going at it and then we'd hear this "pop" that sounded truly terrifying, like a bone being yanked out of place or splintered, and then he'd freeze and take it out only to find a broke condom.
The few times that that happened, I was a little dry. I think the lack of moisture just sort of weakened it and it broke naturally from all the friction, or something.
Anyway, as long as there's been proper foreplay and things are, erm, slick and "ready to go," everything is fine. Haven't had a condom break since.
If you don't have any wetness issues (sorry to get so personal), then I would talk to a doctor. It's a pretty big issue, not just something that you can let go, obviously, especially if you're not going to go on the pill (which I don't blame you for...).

    possibilities:
lube or spermicide you are using (always use water based products with latex)
you aren't getting wet enough and you probably should be using lube

Some of it may be the condom being put on improperly. If it has a reservoir tip, you should squeeze the air out of it, and then put the head of your penis right against the reservoir tip and roll it down over the shaft, making sure no air is trapped inside the condom. If air is trapped in the reservoir tip after it has been rolled down over the penis, that may cause the condom to pop like a balloon when pressure is put on the part of the condom with the air in it when you thrust strongly inside the vagina.
