I like mystical, meaningful, magical stuff. I'd like to learn more about that aspect if you happen to have any cool links

but Native Americans gave reverence to all creatures, and gave them mystical and magical properties that had deep meaning. I have some medicine cards made with them on, but I think they lack a fish :(

but at the same time they still consumed them, but with the highest respect. Many believed the animals sacrificed themselves willingly and with compassion, which allowed them much honor among many tribes, since self sacrifice is generally viewed as one of the most virtuous things one can do, in most cultures.

See, this is how I talk myself in circles. I'm very perspective, but to the point I can't sometimes make up my mind.

This is why I'm sure I'm annoying to some on here :) Alot of people see things one way, but there's respect in that too. but I am still leaning towards vegetarianism. I haven't had fish in a week!!

    what was the question again?
the only question you asked was "am I wrong?"
for eating fish? thats up to you to decide.
It would be like me asking someone who is anti-drugs if I'm wrong for doing drugs.

Some people believe that they would over populate the earth, but they dont think about the other animals that eat meat as a natural thing! Oh and also that they were put here for us to eat. However, I am a pescatarian and i rarely even eat fish or seafood. I first started being a strict vegetarian for animal rights, but then I wanted to be more healthy and in-tune with my body.

Everybody has their own opinions, and some people just go too far with it all...but to each their own...

It IS what YOU want!! You are the one who has to live your life, and make the choices YOU have to do. :)

everyone is saying "it's your choice...you! you! you!". Of course, on the surface, it most certainly is your choice to eat fish or not. However, is it a humane choice? Is it a choice that answers to logic? Is the death of the fish people consume a necessary death? I think not.

As far as them being sentient; All animals, perhaps with exception of ants or other small insects (these insects might actually be able to survive off of simple movement from pre-programmed patterns), DO have emotions. Emotions arn't just some special 'gift from god' to humans. Emotions are an evolutionary gift to most every animal to better survive. Emotions such as Fear, Jealousy, and joy are exhibited by all animals because it keeps them alive. Fear keeps us away from predators, jealousy gives the monkey(or any animal) the banana when he steals it(therefore this monkey lives), joy; motivates us to steal food, have sex, or any other useful action that is key to survival.

And Nerves; this whole "primitive nervous system" is a bunch of lies to make people feel better about vivisection and consuming animals. Only perhaps in ants or other small insects, this Might bare some weight. But, just as emotions are necessary, so are nerves for the same reason, It keeps us alive and motivated to procreate.

I REALLY hope you read this, I think the fishes will appreciate you not eating them. :D
    Thanks for you time Cyrstal!

thanks for taking my thread seriously... some people really don't get why I'm asking these questions, but I think about these things, and I want a fuller perspective :)

And if I'm wrong I want to know. Thats why I debate and asks these questions bc I'm trying to find personal, and perhaps universal, truth. I know some people ::cough cough:: here think thats crap but thats their unfortunate opininion.

I agree it's not a needed death. you can live without meat and fish but no veggies? well alot of fat unhealthy people do, but you see all the health problems they accumulate as a response.

As for emotions. I can't see them in a fish's eyes. I don't feel them when I look at them. To me they look like they're just responding, like plants do, but it would be nieve to assume they do not have feelings only bc I cannot see them. How would I know?

but anyways. your first reason really swayed me. It's not a needed death. I like that. I like that a whole lot more than trying to argue fish are sentinent.

very good advice bro. I would stay far far far away from fish due to mercury. mercury is very hard to get out of your system and it results in brain damage in young children and unborn babies.

Is it really that high? or just high enough.

my brother has autism and that is supposively cause in some cases from mercury exposure. we got really sick when we were young and probably got shots, he got autism but I didnt, but perhaps bc I was older and stronger. It makes me think though.

Some Taoist thought from a translation of Chuang Tzu

If you aren't familiar with Chuang Tzu, he enjoyed playing with words and making outrageous statements, I think it was to get us to go past mere words and find deeper understanding.

a lot of fish is farmed instead of captured from the wild. i saw a documentary about salmon dying in the huge tanks before they were ready, so their grey bodies were eventually died pink and sent off with the rest of the fish.

    tasty.:D

anyways, if you care so much to put this mystical importance on the death of these fish, wouldn't it be logical to remember that the indians hunted for their food, rather than purchasing it?

i have a problem with seeing people eat any animals, but i can respect the person that chooses to hunt/fish for their own food, because it is far less cruel and probably healthier than purchasing it from the store.

and congratulations on not eating fish for a few days
