Hello! They are planning on shutting down a few more public schools in my area to save money and I think their making a big mistake. One of the schools they are planning on closing was established about 15 years ago and its goal was to provide education to the kids who were drop outs, slow learners or the kids who were expelled from the regular public school system. About 5 years ago that school started providing a day care for teens with kids so they could also be educated.(the parent) I know quite a few kids who would not have an education if it wasn’t for that school and there always will be a need for that type of public school - and I figure for the good of the community they should keep it open. Cheers!

word, they are shutting down a lot of public schools in Philly. Art programs are almost completely wiped out of the school system. They cut the Philadelphia school budget in half this year. A lot of teachers lost their jobs. Classrooms are getting more crowded. I'll be student teaching all this year and I will NOT be looking forward to all of these cut backs! We know where our priorities are. War over books. 2009 is going to be worse because the rest of the education laws that Bush passed will come into effect. Good thing that I'll have my degree by then!

it's a part of the "No Child Left Behind" Act. The last part of the act will require teachers to be more specialized. i.e., if you want to teach elementary you will have to be either certified in k-3, 3-6 or 6-8 and if you want to be a special education teacher you will have to have a degree in the speciality area. meaning, if I want to be a learning support teacher, then I will have to obtain a degree in either math or writing/reading. This becomes a major problem because there will be fewer special education teachers in our schools.

Hello! I am just wondering about private education in America. Here in Canada it is starting to be that if you want your child to be educated you send them to a private school or pay for tutoring. Canada used to have a top notch public education system but I am really afraid it is going down the drain.
