I know it was decided to wait 4 years to let the woods recover but isn't it about time? Another site should be picked anyways right? Any plans?

Wouldn't that be rather redundant in light of the big ol' NERF/NY/Mid-Atlantic/Great Lakes/All the Rest of them Yankees Mega Regional 10-19 Aug Allegheny NF?

Not sure what you mean by "about time" as there was Ithaca gathering right after WV annual year b4 last.

    I have a QUESTION!

    What is the rainbow family??

    ha, just kidding..

seriously... I am planning on making it to the penn. regional, but this will be my first regional.. I've been to nationals quite a bit though. How different are they besides the fact they're obviously much smaller..? Is A-camp still *separate* from the main part? Just really anything I should know as a newbie to regionals but not to gatherings in general...

If you think all the drinkers at an Annual Gathering subject themselves to the A-Camp ghetto whenever they want a l'il nip, you need to get out more. But that aspect should be rather like an annual--some rowdy drunks around the cars that will share their cheap beer with you if you ask, in the Village quiet drunks off in their camps that will not share their expensive dark beer, vintage wine, or fine liquor, so don't even ask, and probably a camp of younguns that maybe drink a bit too much and get loud and annoying some nights.

A lot of regionals are bad places to become ill or injured---not much of a CALM. This shouldn't be a problem at PA. Lots of CALM folks up in that area. Any of you Northeasters know if Ned the Fed (he's really not a Fed. It's just his name) is still around?

The cop pressence probably won't be as oppressive. But they'll still be there.

I once compared the differences between an Annual and a regional gathering to the dirfferences between a big city and a small town. Spotsylvania isn't just a smaller version of the Arlington/Alexandria/DC/Baltimore metroplex. There's a difference in quality, or kind, as well as size.

Regionals tend to take on the flavor of their region. In the northeast, you'll get a disproportionate number of New York City hippies, for example, that refuse to be convinced that Manhattan is not the center of the Universe, and Nerfies. You can just tell that the first Nerfies were Hank Thoreau and Ralphie Emmerson. The odor of Trancendentalism is still upon their modern descendants.

I find most regionals to be less work, and mote intimate, Family affairs. Too many times at Annual Gatherings, I feel like I'm some character at the HippieLand Theme Park that's there to put on a show for the locals. Not nessecarily a bad feeling, but different.

Mid August is getting into the harvest there. Lots of sweet corn, summer squash, mellons, home grown tomatos.....

Since we didn't spend our gas money driving to AR, there's a good chance we'll be there. I like NE gatherings, got lots of YankeeBow Family I enjoy spying upon when the weather's hot here and not too cold there. Plus, Cindy's grandfolks live about halfway, in western VA.

Maybe there's NY, PA, DC, and New England LightLine #'s in the Sticky? Or you could enter New England Rainbow Family, or New York Rainbow Family, or some such, into your favorite Search Engine. Or, you could find somebody on here from PA, and ask him.

    Hey there,

I am new here, and have signed up because of this discussion about the PA Multi-bio-regional! (A note about Ithaca - were there after WV (right after WV) and done way too much over the last few years. Let that site heal! )

There are some of us who are still scouting around the woods to determine just the right place to have the gathering. Things to finalize are drinking water source, parking, and such. PLEASE, please, please get involved, and help build this event.

Drop me a line if you want to wander in the woods with a few of us from 44 and NERF. Which NERF you may ask? Now Everybody's Rainbow Family - ohh that one! Nobody can ever agree what NERF stands for!!!

But the NERF - (New England or Northeastern?) lightline has been defunct for some time - very sorry about that - it is an issue of control and it is out of my control!!!

We are planning on some ovens, a couple kitchens have committed, and we have a couple of water filtration systems. If any of you all are planning on attending and bringing kitchens and such -- great!!

    This is what we need:
bridge builders - early SEED campers who want to work.
    food grade buckets
bring potable water pipe and plumbing fittings if your kitchen wants water!
    shovels, maddox, saws
    LIME (white powdery) for SHITTERS!!!
