I've become very interested in Buddhism, can anyone tell me of some sort of book or anything that will help me learn more about this before I decide it is a path I want to go down?

    =] Thanks

"Knowledge is the only thing that paradoxically gets bigger the farther away you are from it." ~ Terry Pratchett.

Ever wonder if a bunch of buddhist teenagers are studying judaism in Nepal as a way of rebelling against the buddhist establishment?

neways, anything by Thich Nat Han (sp?) is pretty good.

Thank you, all of you =] So does anyone else think that Buddhism is the only one that makes sence?

Unless you're particularly neurotic or in a place of inescapable suffering, avoid Buddhism. It's all about ignoring reality and making peace inside your head.
Do a favor to yourself and the the world and remain among the open minds. Instead of reading books that tell you how to live, read books that question and discuss how to live.

And how is Buddhism all about ignoring reality, when the Buddha himself emphasizes reason and logic and individuality immensely.....

Check out some quotes of his.....

“Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense.”

    --- Buddha

“Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it.”

    ---Buddha

And I believe creating first peace in yourself is the most important and mandatory thing for world peace.

You must be the change you wish to see in this world.

The Field of Zen, by D.T. Suzuki, or the Gospel According to Zen, which is a mix of essays. Those are both good i think. Also books by Alan Watts are about eastern spirituality in general and talk about Buddhism and other Eastern religions and philosophy.

To me it's not really a religion, more a way of life that can transform the way you live...

Heres some links to some stuff:

Audio of people giving talks about buddhism, can be a bit dry at times.

Before ya hop into religion, you might want to try some LSD to open your mind past the barriers of control. Buddhism does have some great things in it, but it also has some extremely controlling ideals like every other religion.

When your able to truely love yourself, you'll see that there's no need for religion :)

That too was taught by the Buddha. Check my signature if you have any doubts.
