Just wondered who all is reading the INDIA forum. It's pretty slow here.

Are you Indian? Do you live in India? Are you travelling in India? Are you planning to travel to India and are looking for advice?

uhm. Myself, I'm an American living in India since April. I married into it. My husband is Indian. I love India!!

    Who am I?

What you want a philosophical answer?

'I' lack any inherent existence due to my impermanent nature...

No okay but seriously, i'm from England, was in India late 2005 on part a larger trip around south asia. I only had time to travel some of the north, Himanchal Pradesh, Ladakh, Kashmir, the golden trinagle (agra-jaipur-delhi), Gorakpur...But i'm heading off to India with a couple of friends hopefully in May (though this date keeps getting moved back and forth!) at latest, this time with a lot more money and a lot more time to kill...
We're going to start in the south because none of us have been there yet. Hopefully we'll get to Kerala in time to watch the monsoon come over the ocean to hit India and give us a good drenching! Then we'll cool off on the hill stations and drink tea and try to feel very British and colonial before moving on...General plan is to go north when it cools off then we'll see what happens then. Probably lots of cow spotting and dancing...yay

I'm a Bostonian and loving it. My family is all here, but I have been independent since 1968.

To know more about my thinking look up all my posts,

My connection with India is as follows:

I have read almost every scripture from India since around 1975 (when I first went for prasadam at a temple in NYC).

Was captivated immediately about the concept of God (blue child) and have stayed in temples various times, I also followed Muktananda for a time and read everything he wrote.

Besides the whole Bhagavatam, I have in my possesion other scriptures like the Vasista Yoga. I see no big competition between the impersonal and personal philosophies, and this can have one very confused for a long time.
I believe in all systems, and even the teachings of Don Juan have merit in my book.

Besides their religions, (India) I apreciate the cooking a lot, and wish I could cook like that, but I'm a terrible cook so I frequent Indian Buffets instead.

I could not live anywhere except America since I need to be around a variety of people, and no one claiming to be the firsts or the founders.
Nationalism is everywhere and I can safely asume that there is the same.

I need to be around crowds and meet new people and talk to strangers, and where that is not possible, I get terribly, terribly retless and miserable.

However, I believe strongly that "india" was the first country and that other countries came after, also that westeners have history and religions all screwed up, and that colleges here teach only ignorance of everything.
India has a lot to teach the world, but the rest of the world is too damm proud and nationalistic.

I believe that there is a God and a host of gods with the Supreme remaining far above and superior to others, yet he indwells everything, and is closer to us than even one's nose.

Christ was enlightened to this fact, but had a hard time teaching it to others, and as a consequence Christians have a very limited concept of God, and still need to know even the basics, yet they feel well-informed.

India has been a great example of a peaceful nation and I hope it remains so.

AC Baktivedanta said that John lennon used to be a wealthy musician in his former life, and due to giving away a lot in charity, he was born later to with good Karma. George Harrison gave fifty grands to AC baktivendanta to finish the biography of Krishna ( three volumes) since he had been very impresed with Indias religions.

India as a country and as a religious/spiritual nation could feed the world
with an abundance of holy wisdom and knowledge, and that they have been trying to do for a long time, since the whole western world has been starving for wisdom, and in need of spiritual sponsors, and India alone is where I consider the proper wealth of that is abundant.

I am 100% american yet alot of people greet me asking "where I'm from". I'm "colored" so there are people who still assume I'm from a foreign land. I tell them I'm from Ohio, and they ask where my parents are from. "Ohio".
and then usually they feel ashamed, because it wasn't really meant in a harmful way, it's just the way things are here.
so if I'm going to be alien, I might as well be alien. I want to settle in india. Or I think I might want to. Truthfully I'm usually the noncomformist in any group.

Enough about me. I'm here with a question about india. I've had it in my head for over a decade, that it may well be the place I settle in life. I could get into it, but I'd rather not, due to length of message. Let's just say it has some appeal.

There is one thing I'm curious about though. Is there anywhere in India where entheogens(cannabis, psilocybin, peyote, etc) are legal? Or at least just not really regulated? I don't mean to go off and sell the stuff or make a business of it, I mean to just have in my own home while studying visionary realms. I'm a creative type. Lots of Dali, Alex Grey, studying psychedelics in general is my main reason for this.

I just think it would be nice to find a place in the world where I could go exploring, maybe even with friends, and not have to worry about getting into any trouble. India's religions are so old. That is one more reason it appeals to me. Psychedelics and Mysticism go together like Love and Marriage, in my mind.
