I always wear a tam at work since my dreads are a major mess most of the time and I'm not supposed to have them at all where I work. My managers and boss don't care at all, but it's a franchise and sometimes people come to monitor us without announcing who they are. I was running late for work and didn't have my hat on yet and my manager asked to see my dreads to see how they were coming along.. and.. she.. said it looked like they were "falling out" and I thought I was having a good hair day Seriously though, I could have taken the time to explain to her that since I didn't backcomb there was nothing to "fall out" and what she was seeing was all the dreads I have yet.. Instead I sort of 'hmmpph" 'd and put my tam on and went about my day. I know the truth; they are forming up real nice.
I wouldn't have said anything either because it's not easy to explain to folk who really have no idea.... and when people ask to see how my dreads are coming along and I just tell them "I'll show you in another year"
I get that all the time...that it looks like they're "falling out." Especially after I rip the roots and there's more loose hair. Just ignore them. They don't know anything about dreads...people expect them to be fully formed, uniform, and perfect. And right away, too.
yeah, someone asked me if i could go to a salon and have them make them look "normal" and "right/good". i told her that a big misconception lots of people have is that dreads are fully formed after a day, or a week. ha. ignorant people.
