Read this if you want. Even the best of us can be criminals.

I am a 16 year old criminal in Ontario, Canada. I attend high school, currently going into grade 12. I get good marks and have never failed a class. I have never been suspended or been into serious trouble. I don’t start fights with people, and I have never made fun of my peers. Although I am an atheist, I attend church regularly with my family and I respect everyone’s religious beliefs. I am active in hockey, lacrosse, and rugby. I am courteous to all, and would never wish harm against anyone.

Two years ago I was diagnosed with a bad case of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS). Normally this wouldn’t be a severe disease and for most it just causes some discomfort. But for me, at any given moment, I am in severe pain. I want to reach my hand into my stomach and rip out everything I have. The pain gives me headaches nonstop around the clock. Sometimes the pain makes me vomit. I do not have an appetite but I still try hard to maintain my weight and stay healthy. The only treatment I am able to get is fiber supplements and some other over the counter medications. I have a list of foods I am allowed and not allowed. This so called treatment has done nothing for me.

I started taking cannabis to treat my symptoms last year. After using the drug, I am no longer in pain. I can eat light foods and I get very hungry. My headaches disappear and suddenly the world doesn’t seem so horrible anymore. I use a vaporizer (The “volcano” to be specific) so that I get almost nothing but pure THC into my lungs, and so that I do not run the risk of getting respiratory diseases or threatening others from second hand smoke. A small amount in the morning is usually enough to get me through the day. Because of my heavy tolerance, the high is very minimal allowing me to go to school and learn just fine. Marijuana allows me to live a normal life, and no one has ever even suspected I was on it. And no, I would never drive a vehicle under the influence of it.

Marijuana is one of the safest psychoactive drugs known to man, and that’s including alcohol and caffeine. There have been no direct deaths from marijuana. You cannot overdose on it, it is not physically addictive, and no it doesn’t “fry” your brains. There are many ways of preparing marijuana to reduce any medical problems you are worried it may cause. And yet, it is indeed illegal while substances like alcohol continue to kill countless people. Even caffeine has a higher death toll then marijuana.

My family and I have fought hard to try to get me legal access to medicinal marijuana. I was declined, and so I have been forced to use it illegally. Recently I was on my way home from the dealers house. I guess I didn’t realize my shorts didn’t have any pockets that day, so I had to tape the bag to my leg. Walking downtown on the way home, it slipped and fell out my leg. Someone nearby grabbed it and ran away as fast as they could. I ran after him and caught him, he was in his twenties. I was engaged into a fight that I didn’t want to be in, but I defended myself pretty well. The cops came very quickly, and I was charged with possession (28 grams). The thief got nothing. Not even a slap on the wrist. I am currently serving probation. I am not allowed to smoke marijuana, and if I do I will get caught because of frequent drug tests. My symptoms are back and it seems I have more problems than ever before.

There has to be a line drawn somewhere about the quality of life. Is it worth living a life of misery and torture? Who here can honestly say they would like to live under constant severe pain? Obviously we have been desensitized to these kinds of cases, and all people can do is shrug their shoulders and say “that sucks, I guess...”

It’s a shame though. My criminal record has probably just killed any chance of getting a good job. I am not allowed into the United States, not even to visit my sick grandmother who I guess I’ll never see again. I won’t be able to take my future kids to Disney World, or have a dream vacation in Hawaii.

I am a criminal simply because I don’t like living in constant severe pain. Sucks, don’t it?

I don't just want safe treatment for me, I want marijuana use for everyone who feels they could benefit from it. If you live in Canada and agree with me, you should vote for the NDP so that we can legalize marijuana.

    There is never any shortage
    of Man's inhumanity to Man.

I am so very sorry for your situation.
There is nothing I can say or do,
    to make it any better.

But know that you are not alone,
for I, and others on this Forum,
can always be a shoulder to cry on.

    Peace and best of luck.

What you need to realize is that nothing is incurable. The way of understanding your body that you've been taught since you could talk is completely false. Things don't just happen to it for no reason, and they're never irreversible. The body is a delicate balance, and when that balance is upset by things like stress, unresolved emotions, food additives and other unhealthy things, mental or physical, then you become ill.

It's not a matter of taking medicine (at least not pharmaceutical drugs), but a matter of regaining that balance. It sounds like marijuana is an effective treatment in your case. That's okay, but wouldn't you rather just to not have to use it at all (except for fun, which I totally encourage)? So, regain the balance. This can be done through acupuncture, fasting, and, especially in your case, I think a full colon cleanse would help a lot. It certainly can't hurt. You see, a lot of emotional garbage builds up in the area of the colon, and a colon cleanse will get rid of all that. That, maybe coupled with acupuncture, could actually cure this "IBS". The acupuncture may or may not be necessary, but again, it can't hurt.

Of course, your doctor wouldn't know anything about this, since s/he has been lied to all the way through med school. My advice is to seek out a naturapath or acupuncturist, and see what they can do for you. And remember the colon cleanse. It's very benificial to anyone, but I suspect even moreso for you. If your folks are trying to get you access to medicinal marijuana, I suspect they might be cool enough to look into this with you. But I don't know them.

i heard the same thing about fasting. apparently it revitalizes your body and it can be very healthy. if you're not involved in any heavy physical activities then i'd suggest fasting. but for the case of the marijuana, i completely agree with the legalization of it. it doesn't hurt me or anyone for that matter, however i know alcohol has already killed one person in my family. once i'm of age to vote, i'll make sure its for a party that supports the legalization of cannabis.

well best of luck, and i hope that they can scratch your criminal record under the circumstances.

NDP supports unions. They'd be so overcrowded with complaining union workers the whole time they'd be in power and they'd never have time to look at anything like legalizing marihuana.

Criminalization of drugs falls under national jurisdiction. Electoral law extremely limits donations from anybody (corporations, unions, and individuals). You don't really have to answer to anybody except those who voted you in.

Not only that, but unions are a good thing.

I'm not saying that unions won't give them money, I'm saying that they'd lose all of their union voters if they ignored their whining.

P.S. Unions CAN be a good thing, when they're not lazy clock-watchers.

Also, it's been ruled in an Ontario courtroom that Canada's possession laws are unconstitutional. So this will be followed up. My suggestion to the original poster is to get in contact with the people pushing for legalization and offering your help in whatever way they need it.

    Hi,

I sympathize with your position. It has never seemed correct to me to allow people to suffer when the solution has been identified and can easily be subject to quantitative analysis.

As for not being able to travel to Hawaii or visiting the US, relax on that one. If possession is the only charge that you received, you will be eligible to receive a pardon from the gov't and will be able to freely travel once again.

I guess my question is this. Why on earth would you chase the thief down and get involved in a fight knowing that you could be charged. Wouldn't it have been best to just chalk it up to a loss and go and buy more?

at 16 ,your criminal record will probably be under the young offender's act and wiped out once you reach 19 ........as for the bill to decriminalize marijuana it was wiped out by the conservatives when they came into power ...most probably bowing to the american government not to pass it ......next election ,vote liberal .the senate is still majority liberal ruled for the time ...hopefully next time around they will get it done

So they're essentially no different than any other voting block? Why bother singling them out then.

And as for weed laws being unconsititutional, I think you might be wrong about that. When I get back from work, I'll check a couple cases from my notes. I need to dig out my textbooks to move anyway.
