So I'm currently playing Silent Hill 2 and was wondering who else likes this kind of games or other games that are scary but can't be classified as survival horror. I've played Resident Evil (1 and 2) before and Silent Hill 1. I think I prefer the Silent Hill series, because the horror elements are weirder and more atmospheric and psychological, and the stories behind it are much more complex. What are your favourites?
i loved resi 4, i think its one of the best games to this date. i really liked resi 1, 2 and 3 allthough i merely watched my alot older mate play it cuz i was really young and was abit scared to play it, but really liked watching. back then i had metal gear solid one, and in the pack was a demo of silent hill 1, and holy shit i played it, it was the dream bit where i was looking for my daughter, and then theres all this blood and fences and then i get eaten by these alien like zombie dead mutant freak thingies, i was so scared. and then i wake up in a cafe and bats smash in through the window and kill me. i was so intruegued. i played a small bit of silent hill 2 many years later, right at the beggining where u get a pipe or plank or we and th whole city is filled with these things lol. god i wish i oculd play them now, i totally agree with u about sh, the whole atmoshphere it creates just sends chills down ur spine
Yeah, back when I played Resident Evil 1 I always had my little brother sit with me in the room because I was too scared to play it on my own. Resident Evil 4 seems a bit too action-orientated for me, with not enough actual horror.
^ the fist part was alot like a dumb movie, but then in the castle and the island were really scary. lol in the island when i first met the regenerators i turned my ps2 off. i waited till daylight next day to play again lol
I'm not into horror at all, but I'd like to give Call of Cthulhu: Dark corners of the earth a try. What I've heard about it sounds pretty neat and of course because it's inspired by Lovecraft.
Yeah, I read about it, but I dunno... I don't think FPS is the right medium for horror games, as it's often too much action and not enough suspense. I don't think horror games are truly horror if you can just blast everything to pieces with some big guns. But the site describes some excellent ideas and features, and apparently it also supports a less trigger-happy playing style. And I do love me some Lovecraft. I might just check it out after I've finished SH2 and SH3 (which I've downloaded already to install after I've beaten SH2).
You don't get big guns in that game, I think. It sounds like they did an excellent job of making a first person horror game.
I hope so. Else I'll want my money back! Not like i'm actually going to BUY it, unless I happen to come across it in the budget bucket somewhere, but still... But yeah, it looks okay (hope it's better than Clive Barker's Undying...). I beat SH2. I know you're supposed to play it more than once, in a higher difficulty setting and aiming/hoping for another ending, but I'm really more interested in discovering part 3 than in doing everything all over again.
I love The Resident Evil series..... but i hated the 4th one.... it told you where everything was and made the game WAY too easy...... and silent hill is really cool too
Silent Hill 3 wouldn't play - needs a better graphical card than I have. (weird by the way, because Half-Life 2 played like a dream with the card I have and I didn't even have to compromise the graphics too much). Buuuut... Call of Cthulhu: Bla Bla of the Bla came through quickly. I'll install it right after I've finished my couscous (I'm pretty good at making a nice and cost-effective couscous dish actually).
resident evil 4 for wii is so good. just the fact that you have so much more control makes it rediculusly addicting. even if you've played it on another system, replay it
I don't have any other systems, only the pc. I guess since the Survival Horror genre is originally a genre developed for consoles, that sort of limits the options for me. What's also really limiting the options for me is that Call of Cthulhu doesn't play on my computer, and my videocard doesn't support many of the newer games. :/ What am I gonna do? No, not as in 'get a new videocard', I don't have money for that, but as in, what games should I try that I can play? And maybe I'll ask my dad if he's got a videocard lying around somewhere. Or else he'll look up the cheapest for me. I love my dad. You know, today he came to bring me a fridge. And I needed a fridge*, so yay! and they bought it for me and I'm really happy so I gave my dad some sandwiches with cheese before he went. Ah, happy moments. *) actually already for like... 6 months lol.
I played Resident Evil 1 , 2 and 3 and I was very young at a time, so I really enjoyed it... got sooo scared, also it isn't so easy to beat like 4. 4 is... the worst. I mean, it is the easiest, not horror at all, you get weapons like in Unreal Tournament... it IS a good action game, but as a game in Resident Evil series, it's the worst in my opinion. And Call of Cthulhu is great, Bethesda made it (the same guys that made Morrowind and oblivion) and I really enjoyed playing it.
