By that I mean, you making choices and no pressures from anyone at any time. At the present what is chewing away at your total independence?
If the idiot across the street gets to make his own choices with no pressure from anyone at anytime, what am I to do when he steals my car?
The fact that I was born into the society of the late 1900s is chewing away at my total independence.
Most of the pressures put on me by people I know are for my own good so I've learnt to listen to others when they disagree with me and I usually ask for advice regarding anything to do with taste. On the rare occasions I go against the grain It never bothers me at all to be in opposition so I'm not oppressed. If that O.K. with everyone else
But I wasn't asking about him...only about you....I'm sure a person like that will get his lessons...about the limitations of social freedoms. Personally if I see someone doing that to someone's car, I'll propmtly call the police,,,and I did.
I can't even make a decision of whether or not I want a promotion at work without someone breathing down my neck, telling me how I should go about doing it. Man, I hate the fuckwads I work with more and more every day.
My personal freedom is very important to me, but I don't have a lot at the moment. My parents make a lot of my choices for me and put a lot of pressure on me when it's time for me to make my own choices. It isn't terrible, but sometimes I'd really like to just completely make my own choices.
As days, months and years go by, I become more and more aware of how many self-imposed strict and unesesary regulations we all impose on ourselves every day. Then I look at myself and realize that I am not free, but I crave to be that, and my soul yearns to fly unrestricted,,,, higher and farther than any bird,
I get irritated if someone else tries to make decisions for me. After all, it's my life and I wanna be in charge.
I make the most of my decisions, but since I still live under my parent's roof I guess they're in charge for some of them......Hm..........
"How important is personal freedom to you?" What the fuck kind of question is that? I dont know what to say to shit like that. Now i dont want to be rude but common, you know what you just asked?
to answer the second first: obviously (at least to me) the coerciveness of human society and the dominance of gratuitously conventional assumptions. and while the first may not ever be totally possible, it need not ever, let alone continue to be, totally impossible either. that hierarchy is inhierently bennificent is one of all time's biggest big lies. it has useful uses within reasonable limits. infrastructure, tanagable infrastructure like for transportation and data communication among them. but the trade off of what of nature having more of it then neccessary denies all of us, is NOT a positive nor bennificial one. =^^= .../\... (judging by most responses there are (almost) no (real) hippies here, just a right wing trap to brainwash everyone out of even dreaming about being or becoming one) =^^= .../\...
Yes... I asked "how important is personal freedom to you?" For me it is of great absolute importance; com'on.....freedom? it's even in the constitution of this country. It is as important as saying "give me liberty or give me death". I am not the spangled-banner type, but I agree with that wholeheartedly, yet again, this is not the only country where people treasure freedom; people have been fighting wars throughout history, and not as a sport, but to ensure that their offsprings will live in a country where they are allowed a measure of safe freedom at least. Personal freedom is what we exercise as individuals, making sure that friends, parents, authorities, and other factors don't chew away at our liberties freely. It is a battle yes, but if you don't fight it, your rights and liberties will be up for grabs.
