My brother worked as a dive instructor on that same beach on Kho Phi Phi for a year. He saaaays that the movie crew completely destroyed the beach and it took several months to clean up all the trash. On the topic, beach communes are hard to come by, just like the movie said, because of tourism. The only reason the people on The Beach could live like that is because no one has found them, which ofcourse changes in the end.
I would expect them to be hard to come by. I've always liked he idea of a commune and thought about moving to one. Things have changed though. Oh, well. Oh, the ending of the novel "The Beach" is so much better then the movie ending. If anyone is interested in the book it is written by Alex Garland. Great book, alright movie.
I am going to Thailand on April 17th, 2007. Phuket, Patong Beach is my destination. If you want me to check out anything in particular.. But for the extended stay, count me OUT, I enjoy HIP FORMS too much and would miss the modern conveniences of electricity. The part that is appealing to most GUYS is the "free love" and lets be real, we all know love is not free.
Yep, sounds like an amazing idea!! I'm looking for a commune to live in at the moment, and one on an island would be a dream!! Let me know if you really start making plans, I'm 100 % up for it!!!
Well I spent the 35.00 to take the boat trip out to "The Beach". It was one of about four beaches that we visited. It was pretty cool, but the trip was over shadowed by a boat burning to the water line, and our tour group boat dropping us off and rushing out to assist those in the water. No one hurt, boat and personal belongings of those on board were a total loss. The Beach. I did not see any of the island other than the small portion of sand that is right there, the sun was pretty bright and I was dodging the rays. The rock overhang was a nice place to take a nap, but too many people around to enjoy any quiet time. The dive trip the next day was amazing, email me if you want the power point pictures. I don't think she invited such a public display of affection and attraction to you. I don't think that's what this board is about.
:bigear: what i cant hear you, all i heard is "peace and love to all you amazing people". haha have a good one dear. oh and to the original poster, i love the idea. love it but i cant do that quite yet. but my eyes and ears are open so let me know how things are going with you and your plans good luck!
to the solaris dude, i heard that fiji was seling small islands, i dunno so google it and a beach commune could exist if the land was "owned" by the commune, thus it could not be taken away from them try reading the book man its even better than the movie.
