So, I am at work. It is slow today due to it having rained here a couple of days ago. I am a resident engineer on bridge and roadway projects. Anyway, here I am and I have been surfing the hip forums almost all day. I love it here!!! Should I feel guilty? I am doing some work between answering threads but do I have bad work ethics? What say you, fellow hippies?

I think that's a perfectly good work ethic, do it when you feel like.

no society thinks we have bad work ethics....we really just do what we want, and are happy. which is the way to be.

when I worked in a bookstore i redefined the concept of bad behavior at work... believe me, it's safer not to go too much into particulars !

And dont worry brother engineer, you shouldnt feel guilty for such a little thing. You should feel afraid of being caught :uhoh2: !

bookstores are my favorite place in the world...so it was hard to work there...
I did so many "lazy" and "bookwormy" things at work.

out of joke yes, I enjoyed the place. after all i'd been told in advance that if i had nothing to do in the shop i could read as well.

once i had a girlfriend who was such a selfish asshole that , after having dragged a docile me from shop to shop where she was hunting her personal matters of interest couldnt last ten minutes waiting me at the bookshop .
she assumed that no one can possibly be attracted by books, so it had to be all a twisted revenge from my side... and got angry.

We become at one with what we do for a living when we take an internal interest upon all the facets of such labors.

If you budget your time wisely, you should not feel any guilt at all, instead it may help you to feel better as percieving such, as finding another measure of release to catch the creativity churned out at the behest of your job.

I believe that to be a rienforcing perspective. Best of luck.

No way should you feel guilty. No need to invent meaningless stuff to do just cause it's going a bit slow. That's wasting time, unlike hipforums time ;)
Seriously, when it gets quiet about 3 PM I surf the internet too (I work in an optician's, nobody comes in to get glasses in the late afternoon. Nobody. We only stay open for the eye tests).

    WellRebelfight, I meant no offense.
I just know the feeling myself, and thought I might help another feel a little better/gain a new perspective.

Our work is the among the best of things we can have going for us.
I believe, aside from all the rousing of emotional breakthroughs, our deeds are by far the most important areas of each individuals' development.

Yes. You need to spend more time on hip forums and less time building roads and bridges. :punk:

Well, engineering is a responsible job, so you can't compare it to working in a bookstore (don't mean to offend anyone by this)...On the other hand, it was raining whole day long, you couldn't be doing your work, relax and feel no guilt.........:H

It's basically the same thing, but isn't it actually "If it feels good, do it"?...

If you are sure that the bridge will not collapse because of it, then I do not really see a problem with it.
