Heyyy I'm not near you but I have to say I'm glad to hear someone else like it here. I'm up in Bath county myself, which is up near West Virginia, but I LOVE it here. Yeah we have the backwards rednecks for sure, but there's magick in these hills and wisdom in the forests, you just have to look right.
I gotta say this is probably the most beautiful place i've ever seen (of course, aside from the rednecks) and it's nice getting lost in the woods.
Wow, you're just nearby.. I'm in Scott Co.. It's nice to see others on here that live in this area.. I've very seldom talked to people online that live in the same County.
Nice country down there. Too much congestion and too many assholes here in P.W. County now. Too bad it used to be pretty nice here too.
so ya'll i'm moving to the southwestern Virginia-- I can deal with there not being anything to do, but how's the job market for ppl without college degree... I am actually a student but i will be in school a very long time and out-of-state tuition is a real bitch so i'm living in VA for a year to become a VA resident then goin back to school...it sucks but thats gonna save me at least 55,000 dollars so..yeah...but anyhow i'm moving to Blacksburg or Harrisonburg -- one of the two..which has a better job market and lower cost of living??
Pretty much a toss up on both accounts. They are close together so the cost of living should be similar. If you have transpo then you can rent just outside of town for dirt cheap. Or you could live in town w/ roommates. Shouldn't have a problem finding either.
I'd recommend that you locate to "TriCities", i.e. Bristol/Kingsport/Johnson City, on the Virginia side of course. There are a lot of temp agencies and lots of jobs for non-college-grads, they don't pay much but rent can be cheap if you're not too picky about your digs. Crime rate is low. Weather is good, much better than B-burg or H-burg. You may even qualify for free health care, check with social services after you settle. There are several colleges and a university on the TN side of the area, you might even find you want to shoot for TN residency unless you have a very specific VA school you want to attend. I lived there from '85 till last year, shoot me an email to grhurley at netscape dot com if I can help you with more specific info. I'd be glad to help, sounds like you're doing about what I did (except that I missed a technicality and got classed a TN nonresident, eating up my MBA money to complete my BBA. Oh well.)
No prob. Upon further reflection, Blacksburg is probably the "cooler" of the two towns. Good luck, and watch out for those technicalities!
WINCHESTER VIRGINIA ANYBODY!? actually, i live in gore. but its close enough to winchester. anybody live in gore or winchester give me a P.M.
I'm from Woodbridge, VA....I have had my fair share or H-burg partying though. I believe I was banned for streaking
